David Stremme Advance
Infineon Raceway
Race: Toyota/Save Mart 350 on Sunday, June 24
Track: Infineon Raceway (1.99-mile road course)
Location: Sonoma, Calif.
David Stremme and the No. 40 Coors Banquet Dodge Team Facts:
Up 37 Spots: Although David Stremme will be heading to Sonoma this weekend for his first road
course race in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series competition, his two career NASCAR Busch Series road
course starts are something to talk about. After qualifying 36th and 40th in Mexico City and Watkins Glen
(2005), Stremme finished 22nd and 17th, respectively. That’s a total of 37 positions gained in just two
road course starts!
Special Paint Scheme: Instead of the primary Coors Light paint scheme, the No. 40 car will
feature Coors "The Banquet Beer" livery. Earlier this year, Coors unveiled a new look for its original
pilsner. With a nod to the days when people couldn't get Coors east of the Mississippi, the packaging
and advertising evokes the heritage and mystique that people associate with the original "yellow belly"
can.
Stremme Talks Smokey and the Bandit: “You may remember that Coors, the Banquet Beer,
had a starring role in Smokey and the Bandit 30 years ago as the beer Bandit (Burt Reynolds) and
Snowman (Jerry Reed) smuggled out of Texas,” said Stremme. “Now the brand is honoring its Hollywood
heritage by naming the top American movie legends of all time. Coors Banquet recently conducted a
consumer poll, Gone with the Wind was named the most legendary American movie of all time, followed
by Casablanca, Star Wars and The Godfather. But personally, I would have gone with Smokey and the
Bandit.”
Two 30th Birthdays: Did you know Stremme turned 30 on Tuesday, June 19th, the same year
Smokey and the Bandit commemorates its 30th anniversary?
Beer Snobs and the Bandit: Coors has a long Hollywood history. It was the only beer that Chevy
Chase and Paul Newman would have on set, and even got its own starring role in the trucker cult classic,
“Smokey and the Bandit,” when Burt Reynolds smuggled 400 cases of Coors across the country. Other
famous fans have included Kid Rock, Keith Richards, Sam Elliott and Steve McQueen.
Standings Update: Stremme and the No. 40 Coors Light team finished 40th at Michigan
International Speedway last Sunday. The team currently maintains the 22nd spot in the NNCS point
standings and is -288 markers back of the 12th and final transfer spot in the chase for the NEXTEL Cup.
Racing Close to Home: Scott Ward, front tire changer for the No. 40 Coors Light team, will return
to his native California this weekend. Ward is from Clearlake, Calif. northeast of Sonoma.
The Nickname: At the time, Colorado was famous for its mining – gold, silver and metals were
abundant in the mountains. Denver and Golden became popular trading posts; men would carry their
treasures down from the mountains, exchange them for money and remain in the towns until the next
trip. Tired after months of hard work in the mines, the men would relax during their stays in town, often
throwing large banquets. Their beer of choice during this time of freedom? “The Banquet Beer,”
otherwise known as Coors.
Chassis Selection: Crew Chief Steve Lane and the Coors Light team have selected #740 for this
weekend’s Toyota/ Save Mart 350. This weekend will be the first time #740 sees the track.
