Allstate 400 at the Brickyard - Bill Elliott Notes

ELLIOTT AND WOOD BROTHERS/JTG TEAM HEADING TO INDY WITH POINTS ON THEIR MIND

It’s safe to say that the season so far has been a struggle for the No. 21 Wood Brothers/JTG team. But for the first time in weeks, there is now light at the end of the tunnel. On the heels of their 28th place showing at Chicagoland Speedway two weeks ago, the team moved up to the crucial 36th place spot in the fight to get back in the top-35. Now, just over 200 points separate them from their goal. And they’ve had to claw their way forward every inch of the way.

The Brickyard 400 is one of the most prestigious events on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup schedule. And No. 21 Little Debbie driver Bill Elliott should know—he won this race back in 2002, driving for Evernham Motorsports. On that day, he led 93 of the 160 laps, including the final 12 en route to his 43rd career trip to Victory Lane. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has always been good to Elliott. In 13 previous starts, he’s earned one victory, five top-five finishes and nine top-10 efforts. He’s led a total of 157 laps at the 2.5-mile quad-oval and has also completed every lap of competition in every race he’s competed there. In addition, he has qualified in the top-10 eight times.

As for the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford, the team is once again banking on their “Money” car, Chassis 75, which has been a consistent performer for the Wood Brothers/JTG Team. The car was previously used at Charlotte, Michigan and two weeks ago in Chicago.

The Brickyard 400 could be the race in which the Wood Brothers/JTG Team capitalizes on all of their opportunities. The team is taking their best car, Bill Elliott has had great success both in qualifying and finishes and the mood of the team is finally on an upswing. However Sunday afternoon turns out, the team could be well on their way to getting back on track for the remainder of the 2007 season.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY
Bill Elliott, driver of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford:
“We’ve got a lot to look forward to this weekend at Indy. I love the place, the history behind it and the success I’ve been fortunate enough to have here. We’ve clawed our way this far and moved up to 36th in the points—but we have a little further to go and I think we can take another giant step towards that goal this weekend. We’re giving ourselves the best shot at it, so it should be interesting to see how it all goes.”

Michael McSwain, Crew Chief of the No. 21 Little Debbie Ford:
“I think having a break last weekend was good for us as a team. We’ve been through a lot of struggles this year, but I think myself and the rest of the guys can see that we’ve put ourselves in position to get out of the hole we’ve been in all year. We’re going to fight hard. Every practice session, our qualifying effort and then race all out on Sunday. We’ve been asking to be in this position for quite a while. Now we’re there and we’ve got to respond.”
