Scott Wimmer
No. 33 Holiday Inn Chevrolet
Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event/Date: Dodge Dealers 400 – September 23, 2007
Venue: Dover (Del.) International Speedway

NOTES:

  • This Week’s Race Car at Dover International Speedway … The Holiday Inn Racing team will unload Chassis No. 200 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable this weekend. This is a brand new Holiday Inn Chevrolet Impala SS.
  • Make it Four … Scott Wimmer will attempt to qualify for his second NASCAR Cup Series race of the season at Dover International Speedway (DIS), giving RCR four entries in the Dodge Dealers 400. Wimmer was behind the wheel of the No. 33 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July, where he started 22nd and finished 33rd after being involved in an incident on pit road.
  • Holiday Inn Double Duty … In addition to the No. 33 Chevrolet, Holiday Inn will also sponsor Wimmer and the No. 29 Busch Series Chevrolet this weekend at Dover.
  • Going Green … While the No. 2 BB&T Chevrolet will be taking a break from Busch Series competition, crew chief Dan Deeringhoff will go green and lead the No. 33 Holiday Inn Racing team this weekend at DIS. Wimmer’s No. 29 Holiday Inn NASCAR Busch Series crew will go over the wall.
  • RCR at Dover … RCR team owner Richard Childress has earned four wins at Dover International Speedway - three of them coming with Dale Earnhardt and most recently with Jeff Burton last September. Earnhardt won both events at the “Monster Mile” in 1989. The seven-time champion also won the spring race in 1993. Additionally, RCR has earned one pole, 20 top-five and 35 top-10 finishes at the high-banked concrete oval. Childress, a former driver in NASCAR’s top division, contributed three of those top 10s from 1976-1980.
  • First Win … Wimmer claimed his first NASCAR Busch Series victory in September 2002 at Dover in his 63rd career start. While he’s still searching for his first win in NASCAR’s top division, Wimmer has earned one top-five and three top-10 finishes and has led for 36 laps in 106 starts.
  • Catch the Action … The Dodge Dealers 400 at Dover International Speedway will be televised live on ABC on Sunday, September 23 beginning at 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will broadcast worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying will air live on ESPN2 Friday, September 21 beginning at 3 p.m. EDT.

    SCOTT WIMMER QUOTES:
This will be your first Car of Tomorrow race. What are your expectations?
“I am sure that it is going to be a change. I am fortunate to have done a lot of testing throughout the year but never under race conditions or qualifying conditions. It is going to be a little bit of a challenge to get used to it. I ran the Busch car in Dover in the spring and I will be running the Busch car this weekend so I will have quite a few laps and it’s a track that I am comfortable with. Dan (Deeringhoff) and those guys did a great job at Indy. We had a really good car so I am looking forward to having another great Holiday Inn Chevy this weekend. We will go there and focus on qualifying and then get the car ready to race.”

Do you find Dover to be a demanding track?
“Dover is very demanding and 400 miles there is a tough day on you. It is really hard on your neck and your arms with the banking and the speeds that we carry there. It is really a track that tends to wear you out and at the end of the day you have put in a hard days work.”

This is the first weekend where you are running the Cup and Busch double with two different types of cars with the Car of Tomorrow competing in the Cup race. Does that create any issues?
“It is going to be a big change with the Car of Tomorrow. Normally when I have run double duty it was between the current car and not the Car of Tomorrow. As far as the track, it stays the same. I felt really good with our Busch package back in the spring so we are going back there with a similar package and all we will have to do is fine tune the car. I am not quite sure what to expect with the Cup car. It might be a little bit of a transition. We will focus on the Busch race and make sure that we can get the most points that we can to keep our lead in the owners’ standings. Our main goal on the Cup side is to get the Holiday Inn Chevy in the race and hopefully come out with a strong finish.”
