Dodge Avenger 500 - Rookie Saturday Quotes

DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 00 DOMINO’S TOYOTA: THIS IS THE SECOND RACE IN A ROW WITH A RAIN DELAY. I think it looks a little better to get it in tonight than our last deal so hopefully we’ll still be able to get it in. The only part that gets frustrating is when you get all suited up and go out there and strap in and make a lap or two and then have to come in and get out and say okay now we’re not going to do it. We’ll just hang out and hopefully it’ll move past and we’ll get started a little later but we should be alright.” WILL THE TRACK BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WHEN YOU DO START THE RACE? “Naw, I think it is still wore out anyway. No amount of rain is going to change that [smiles]. What rubber it takes on it’ll take it pretty quick, I think, because it’s prone to rip rubber off tires as we go. I don’t know that it’ll be that much different. Maybe early on but I think it’ll get back to being it’s normal self.” YOU HAVE BEEN FAST HERE ALL WEEKEND. “The guys have been doing a good job all year. I think we’re getting better as a team. The changes are getting quicker when we come in and make changes and everybody is working well together and everybody is doing a good job at the shop preparing the stuff so when we show up the stuff has been good to qualify. I think we’ve made some gains and we obviously still have farther to go but you always have farther to go in racing. You’re never to the point where you think you’ve got it figured out because it always changes. The guys are doing a good job. I know we’re gaining on it. I don’t know that we’ve turned the corner but we’re getting a lot closer to it.” WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO GET BACK IN THE TOP-35 IN OWNER POINTS? “It’s definitely attainable. You look back and if you hadn’t got jammed up in a couple of deal and if Talladega would have different, I don’t know where we would have ended up at Talladega but I know we would have been a whole lot better than 32nd. And obviously not getting a chance to qualify at Texas when we had the car that was eighth quickest on the sheet, that hurt too. We just have to continue to make races and then we have to start finishing better than we have. I think we finished 28th or 29th last weekend. We need to be in the top-15 to gain some points. That’d be great.”

DONNIE WINGO, CREW CHIEF, No. 42 TEXACO/HAVOLINE DODGE: HOW SPECIAL WOULD IT BE TO HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN AT DARLINGTON? “This is a race that I’ve always wanted to win and always wanted to be part of a team to win. I’ve been a part of teams that have been leading with as few as eight laps to go and something happened, have a pit stop with five to go and lose it. Being from South Carolina this is one racetrack that I’d like to be a part of a win at.” HOW MUCH OF A BURDEN WOULD A RAINOUT TONIGHT PLACE ON THE TEAMS AS THEY PLAN TO TEST AT DOVER NEXT WEEK? “It’s a strain on anybody anytime you get delayed on something like this. But I think NASCAR will probably step in and maybe cut some of the testing back at Dover. Our stuff is ready to go to Dover. We don’t have to worry about getting it ready, just got to get it loaded and get it up there. I think they’ll cut it back. The word their talking about is cutting it back maybe to one day or something.” WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON A POSSIBLE ONE-DAY TEST AT DOVER? “It might determine a few things that we were going to test and just kind of put that aside and try to test it at a later date.”
