ABOVE AVERAGE IN THE IMPALA: Kyle Busch has an outstanding record in the four Chevrolet Impala SS races this season. He earned a win at Bristol, Tenn., followed by a fourth-place finish at Martinsville, Va., and a seventh-place result at Phoenix. Busch most recently turned in a runner-up performance on Sunday at Richmond, Va., putting his average finish in the Impala at 3.5.

REPRESENTING SOUTH CAROLINA: Four members of the No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST team are from South Carolina. Scorer Kaye Jenkins, from Kershaw, has been with Hendrick Motorsports since 1998; gas man and Greer native Brad Pickens has worked at Hendrick since 2000; Gene Cornwell, a mechanic with the company since 2001, hails from Rock Hill; and the team's newest member, backup transporter driver Jimmie "Biscuit" Parrott, is from Taylors.

SONS, START YOUR ENGINES: In honor of Mother's Day, Kyle Busch's mother, Gaye Busch, will join the group of drivers' moms selected as grand marshals for Saturday's 500-mile event at Darlington (S.C.) Speedway. Gaye Busch will accompany her sons Kyle and Kurt across the stage at driver introductions before giving the command, "Sons, start your engines!"

CAR SELECTION FOR DARLINGTON: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has made Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 423 the Impala SS of choice for this weekend's NEXTEL Cup festivities at Darlington. The brand new car will make its maiden voyage at the track "Too Tough to Tame."

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S/CARQUEST IMPALA SS: (ON FINISHING SECOND AT RICHMOND.) "Finishing second at Richmond was a great lift for this Kellogg's/CARQUEST team. It was a good points day. We need to get back up toward the top five in points heading toward the summer. I still need a lot of work on driving these Impalas, but we overcame a really bad qualifying position (34th) and that is good enough for me."

BUSCH: (ON RACING AT DARLINGTON.) "I've had some success there, mainly in a Busch Series car. In the NEXTEL Cup Series I had a great car my first year and got a famous 'Darlington Stripe' about halfway through the race. The car had a lot of damage and I finished 23rd. Last year we had a good car; we led one lap and finished seventh."

BUSCH: (ON MOTHERS DAY.) "My mom likes coming to the race track. She and my grandma (Joann Busch) really raised me at the track. Mom scored, but I was too young (to race), so Grandma and I sat up in the stands and watched my dad and Kurt (Busch, brother) compete. When I was old enough (to race) they were there, too. My mom scored, was an official or did whatever it took to help both of us. Now that we have made it to this level, Grandma never misses a race on television and my mom comes to as many as she can. I couldn't have made it to where I am without my mom or grandmother."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S/CARQUEST IMPALA SS: (ON THE CAR OF TOMORROW AT DARLINGTON.) "I think Darlington is going to be the toughest 'Car of Tomorrow' race of the year. To compare, a lot of the drivers complain the new car has no grip and is hard to turn. Darlington has always been hard to get around with the Monte Carlos that have a lot of grip. The drivers will have to be very disciplined. It could spell trouble for a lot of teams."
