EXPRESS NOTES:
Hamlin Records First Win of 2007 at New Hampshire: Denny Hamlin and the #11 FedEx team captured their first win of the 2007 season at New Hampshire International Speedway on Sunday. Hamlin led a total of 46 laps on his way to his third career NEXTEL Cup win. After starting the race from the eleventh spot on the grid, Hamlin consistently ran in the top-ten all race and held off a hard-pressing Jeff Gordon at the finish line to secure Joe Gibbs Racing’s first COT win. The result keeps Hamlin idle at second place in the season standings, 156 points behind leader Jeff Gordon. Hamlin leads third-place Matt Kenseth by 209 points.
Hamlin at Daytona International Speedway: This will be Hamlin’s ninth start overall, and fourth Cup start at Daytona International Speedway. Despite battling for the lead throughout most of the Daytona 500 earlier this year, fender damage and a late-race accident forced Hamlin to settle for a 28th place finish at DIS. In last year’s Pepsi 400 in July, Hamlin battled an ill-handling car in traffic to secure a 17th place finish after starting sixth on the grid. After winning the 2006 Bud Shootout, Hamlin qualified seventeenth for the 2006 Daytona 500 and ran mid-pack most of the afternoon before being caught up in a lap 197 wreck that caused extensive right side damage and relegated him to a 30th-place finish.

Hamlin has driven this car in both of his two career Daytona 500 races (28th and 30th place finishes). Backup chassis 123 was driven by Hamlin to a 17th place finish in the 2007 Bud Shootout. It has served as a backup on one other occasion.
FedEx Express Fact: Hamlin has led 711 laps this season, second only to Jeff Gordon (755). Hamlin has led laps and secured a top-ten finish in nine of the last ten Cup races.
QUOTES
Hamlin on Daytona: “While this hasn’t been our most successful track when you look at our past finishes, I think we are capable of winning here. We’ve had some bad luck in the past and made a few mistakes, but I feel more comfortable each time we come here and run at a superspeedway. The track itself is starting to age and with that you get the bumps, but it seems every time I race here I find the bottom of the track to be my most comfortable and productive line. I’m not sure if that will be true this weekend, but I know the #11 FedEx team has put a lot of resources into our JGR superspeedway cars and I feel like we can be contenders for the second week in a row.”
Hamlin on winning at New Hampshire: “After being so close to reaching victory lane on more than one occasion this season, I feel relieved and excited that we got our first win of ‘07. Our JGR COT’s have been some of the best all season, and although we didn’t have the best car all day, we took a risk by only taking on two tires with 44 laps to go, and it turned out to be the right decision. Track position is so important with these (COT) cars; we knew we had to gamble a little bit knowing we didn’t have the best car on the track and the #24 of Gordon was coming after us. This was a huge win for us when you look at bonus points going into the Chase and a big confidence booster for the entire #11 FedEx team.”
