WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE DAYTONA 500 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES RACE AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2007.
Tony Stewart led twice for 35 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in the Daytona 500. Stewart took the honor in the first NEXTEL Cup Series race of the 2007 season.
Stewart’s day ended on lap 153 while battling for the lead with Kurt Busch. He was credited with a 43rd-place finish.
Stewart has won the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader award in each of the past two seasons.
STEWART QUOTES: “I’m excited about our season and winning the WIX Filters Lap Leader award is proof of it. Man, our Home Depot Chevy was fast. Every time we went on the track it was fast. I was just in the middle of the corner and all of a sudden it didn’t take off easy, it took off pretty big. You can’t leave here disappointed. Any time you can win two out of three events, we’ve got a lot to smile about.”
