Sharp Aquos 500 - Kyle Busch Notes

PREVIEW: KYLE BUSCH (NO. 5 CHEEZ-IT/CARQUEST MONTE CARLO SS)
VENUE: CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY (TWO-MILE D-SHAPED OVAL)
CIRCUIT: NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES (RACE 25 OF 36)
EVENT: SUNDAY, SEPT. 2 , 2007 (250 LAPS, 500 MILES)

RECORD STILL STANDS: It's been two years since Kyle Busch took the checkered flag at California Speedway, but his record as the youngest race winner in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series history still stands. Busch broke the mark set by Donald Thomas, who won at Lakewood (Ga.) Speedway on Nov. 16, 1952 at 20 years, 4 months and 2 days of age. Thomas was four days older than Busch.

THE BIG CHEEZ: Kellogg Co.'s tasty baked snack cracker Cheez-It will adorn the hood of Busch's No. 5 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for Sunday night's NEXTEL Cup event at California Speedway. It will mark the second appearance of 2007 for the Cheez-It logo, which ran earlier this season at Texas Motor Speedway.

BUSCH'S BELOVED BRONCOS: Prior to heading to California Speedway, Busch will venture west to watch the Denver Broncos take on the Arizona Cardinals in preseason NFL action at Mile High Stadium in Denver. Busch is a lifelong Broncos fan and hopes to take in a Monday Night Football game later in the season.

PIGEON CAM: Fans watching at home will get an even closer look at pit stops on the No. 5 car this weekend. Rick Pigeon, the No. 5 team jackman, will wear a "crew camera" on his helmet for ESPN's Sunday night broadcast of the NEXTEL Cup event at California.

CALLING ALL KIDS: Busch is looking for a little assistance from young, creative minds all over the world to help design his new helmet. To enter the helmet design contest, visit www.kylebusch.com to download a helmet template and mail it in. The contest runs through Sept. 30 with Busch picking the winning helmet during the month of October. The lucky winner will receive a full-size replica helmet of their winning design. Children ages 18 and under are eligible.

CHASSIS 307 GOIN' BACK TO CALI: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 307 for this weekend's NEXTEL Cup event at California. The car cruised to a 13th-place finish at Michigan two weeks ago.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 CHEEZ-IT/CARQUEST MONTE CARLO SS: (ON RACING AGAINST TEAMS ON THE CHASE BUBBLE.) "I don't think it's going to be too aggressive out there. There are only a handful of guys on the bubble, and the rest who are actually in the Chase are just trying to rack up wins to get the extra bonus points. So, nothing has really changed in the style of racing. It's always been this competitive. From where I'm sitting, watching the battle for 12th will be pretty fun. I'm just glad not to be in that situation and that we're solidly in the Chase."

BUSCH: (ON CALIFORNIA'S SIMILARITIES TO MICHIGAN.) "We have had good qualifying efforts at Michigan the past few times, and although we ran well at Michigan a few weeks ago, we pitted for two tires and never regained track position. California is a multi-groove track as well, so we hope our car works in whatever the fast lane is. We're taking the same car, so I think we should run very well right out of the box."

BUSCH: (ON LESSONS LEARNED HEADING INTO LAST YEAR'S CHASE.) "The biggest thing I learned last year was that you need to finish races. We were fourth in points heading into Richmond and it seems like the bottom dropped out once the Chase started. We had odd things happen. One race we blew up, which is rare, and we wrecked a few times and just never really regained the form we had over the summer. This year we're smarter, and we've been very competitive each week."

BUSCH: (ON WHAT HE DOES FOR FUN.) "I'm so happy to be heading to the Denver Broncos game this week. Besides that, I love being out west. I try to eat all the In-N-Out Burger I can. I'm ready for some football to start. Once the college and NFL seasons start, I think I watch more of that than anything. With the summer winding down, the days on Lake Norman are numbered. I also participate in a fantasy football league online, which is just for fun."
