Auto Club 500 - Ford Qualifying Quotes

GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 Ameriquest Ford Fusion (qualified 13th) – “The car was really, really good – the car was way better than I was, unfortunately. I left a lot out there. The wind is blowing hard, you can see these flags blowing. I was just not going to let [turns] one and two beat me. I turned in early and didn’t carry a lot of speed in there and gave up a lot of speed in there. I think if we look at the Lap Tracker, we were about the same or beat ’em in three and four – just gave it all up in one and two.”

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 Carhartt/DeWalt Ford Fusion (qualified 25th) – HOW WERE YOUR LAPS? “They were okay. We ran a lot better than we did in practice – we didn’t get much time to work on the qualifying-trim package, so it was a pretty good speed for us. We missed it a little bit, but we made it better than what it was.” MORE ON HIS QUALIFYING EFFORT. “We missed it way to the loose side in practice, we missed it to the tight side in qualifying, so it’s good that we were able to change the car, we just went a little too far. It’s better to run on the tight side, I guess, in qualifying. WHAT TYPE OF RACE TO YOU EXPECT ON SUNDAY? “I expect the same race you see out here all the time. I expect two, three grooves of racing out there. The track lends itself really well for side-by-side racing, it’s plenty wide, so I think you’ll see a great race like you always do out here.”

DAVID RAGAN – No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion (qualified 43rd) – “We’re sitting in the top five pretty comfortable right now. (Ragan was the third driver to attempt to qualify). We picked up from practice, made a few adjustments on the AAA Insurance Ford Fusion, and we’ll see what we’ve got. We started up 35th at Daytona and wound up all right. Certainly, qualifying doesn’t pay much, so as long we’re in the show pretty decent, in the top 25, that would be great.” LAST WEEK IS NOW OFFICIALLY OVER. “I feel like we got that as kind of on the back burner, certainly, when we need a little boost of energy we can always go back to Daytona and think about such a great run. But we’ve got 35 more of these things, and we’re going to run good in quite a few of them.”

DAVID GILLILAND – No. 38 M&M’s Ford Fusion (qualified 44th) – “This week we haven’t been as good as we would’ve like to be, unloading and right off the bat, but we’ll get there. It’s nice to be back in California, but as far as the car goes, we’ve got a little bit of work to do. The good thing is we’ve got tomorrow.” THIS RACE WILL BE RUN WITH UNLEADED FUEL, AND EARLIER TODAY DOUG YATES SAID THAT SHOULDN’T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE AS FAR AS HORSEPOWER IS CONCERNED. COULD YOU TELL ANY DIFFERENCE? “I can’t tell a difference. From in the driver’s seat, I can’t really tell a difference.”
