KASEY KAHNE QUOTES:
“The credit for the top-10 finish at Daytona goes to Kenny (Francis, the team director) and the crew. Our I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry Dodge Charger received extensive damage in the mishap on the fourth lap. The crew did a great job making repairs. After they finished with those repairs, they focused on the setup. By the end of the race, we had a competitive racecar.
“I’ve qualified well at Chicagoland, but haven’t had good finishes. We have a chance to put together back-to-back, top-10 finishes. That’s what this No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge team needs. Our team has worked hard to get us back to the point were we’re consistently running in the top- 10. That creates the opportunity to challenge for the win. We’re close. We’re real close.”
QUICK FACTS
The Dodge Dealers/UAW team is carrying a lot of momentum going into Chicago after Kahne finished ninth at Daytona last week. It was his second top-10 of the season. Both came at Daytona Int’l Speedway.
Kahne jumped up to 26th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series point standings with his top-10 finish at DIS. He is just 57 points out of the 22nd spot.
Look for Kahne to have a strong qualifying run at Chicago this weekend. Only once has he failed to qualify in the top three.
In three career starts at the 1.5-mile tri-oval in Chicago, Kahne’s average starting spot is 7.7.
