Sharpie 500 - Scott Riggs Notes

Scott Riggs
No. 10 Valvoline/Stanley Tools Dodge Avenger Race Facts
Nextel Cup Series --- Bristol Motor Speedway

Driver: Scott Riggs
Team Director: Rodney Childers
Engineer: Chad Johnston
Team/Owner: Valvoline Evernham Racing
Designated team owner, Jim Rocco
Chassis: 207
Info: Last raced at Bristol in the spring

SCOTT RIGGS QUOTES:
“The new Bristol track surface is nice but it feels entirely different. All the holes and bumps and the things that made Bristol so difficult to get around and also made it so hard to race side-by-side, they took all those things away. They’ve really extended the banking in the corners further down the straight away in both directions. So the transition down the straight away into the corner is a lot smoother. Plus they gave us about three more feet of race track. Three feet and Bristol is like 10 feet somewhere else. It’s really smooth and really gentle as far as getting into and off the corner. It also has a lot of grip and the tires are a little harder because they were trying to anticipate what kind of grip the track was going to have and they wanted to make sure they had something pretty conservative. I like the new surface but we had some success with the No. 10 Valvoline/Stanley Tools Dodge on the old one so we will be working hard this weekend to keep that going.”

QUICK FACTS:

  • Riggs had a strong performance at Bristol last year. After battling hard through the closing laps he took the checkered flag in fourth spot.
  • Riggs has one top five and two top 10s at the half-mile oval in Bristol.
  • Riggs participated in the Busch Series test session on the new Bristol surface, and was scheduled to participate in the Goodyear test session for the COT the next day which was eventually cancelled due to rain.
  • Riggs and the No. 10 Valvoline/Stanley Tools team are 37thin owner points. They will still need to qualify for this week’s race on time
