JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, No. 42 TEXACO/HAVOLINE DODGE: “It was good. We had a pretty decent car. We didn’t have a really fast car but we had a decent car. We were running the bottom and one of the guys came down on me and spun me completely. I lost like two laps trying just to get it started and then we had a vibration in one of the tires but no, we’re good. We got the car home and scored some more points and just go to the next one.” THIS IS A PHYSICALLY DEMANDING TRACK ON THE DRIVER. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF YOUR FIRST NEXTEL CUP RACE AT BRISTOL? “It was pretty easy, to be honest.”
DAVID RAGAN IN THE No. 6 AAA FORD WAS THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE RACE IN TODAY’S FOOD CITY 500.
NOTES:
Ragan finished 26th and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the third time in five races this season.
UNOFFICIALLY Ragan and Montoya are tied for the lead in the Raybestos Rookie standings (57-57).
RAGAN: “It was a long day. Shoot, I’m tired [smiles]. We ran 500 laps here at Bristol and our car was pretty decent at times. We gave up a little bit at the beginning. I hate that we got spun out there at the end. It cost us five or six spots. We’ll see what we can do next week. We’ve just got to keep working on our COT program. The AAA pit crew did a great job and we’ll keep getting better.” HOW DID YOU FARE, PHYSICALLY, TODAY? THIS IS A PHYSICIALLY DEMANDING TRACK. “I’m wore out, I won’t lie. Shoot, I haven’t been this tired in a long time. I was driving as hard as I could there at the end. It is what it is. It’s important to finish these races and that’s what we did. I’m usually more talkative but I’m out of breath.”
AJ ALLMENDINGER, No. 84 RED BULL TOYOTA: “We weren’t very good all day. I mean we were struggling a bit. You know, we were okay. We needed to just keep working on it and I was getting stuck to the outside. I saw, I thought it was Kenny Schrader, I saw him there and Timmy [Fedewa] my spotter told me ‘He’s there’ and I tried to force the issue. It’s one of those things, give or take. I could have given him a little bit more room. That was early in the race and he probably could have checked-up a little bit. We just got together, no big deal, and got up into the wall and messed the car up. Thanks to all the guys. They worked their butts off so I could go out there and get some laps in. Half the splitter is missing and the toe’s out and wing is all jacked up. At that point you’re trying to make changes praying to God it’s going to be better but it’s not.” HOW PHYSICAL IS THIS TRACK? “You know, I used to think Champ Car was tough to drive but do 500 laps around this place. That’s a lot of work.”
