Bristol Bound: Sorenson is looking to improve upon his Bristol Motor Speedway stats with two strong performances in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and Busch Series. His best finish in Cup competition is 22nd, which came in last year’s Food City 500. His best Busch Series finish is an impressive third place, which came in his first start at the track on April 4, 2005.
By the Numbers: Reed Sorenson and the Target team put forth a solid effort in last weekend’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It was the team’s first top 10 of the season (ninth-place finish) and the sixth of Sorenson’s young career. Sorenson ranked fifth in average running position (8.095) during the 325-lap event and he was second highest in laps completed inside of the top 15 – 323 laps (99.4%). Sorenson and team also led their first lap of the season.
Chassis: Crew chief Jimmy Elledge and the Target team have selected chassis #633 for this weekend. It is a new Car of Tomorrow (CoT) and was tested at BMS on Feb. 28 and March 1.
Points Report: Reed Sorenson and the Target team jumped six positions—to 25th—in the overall NEXTEL Cup Series standings. The team is 45 points out of 20th and 100 behind the top 10.
Fellow Tennessean: Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) team manger Tony Glover hails from Kingsport, Tenn. Glover has been involved in racing for 34 years, with career highlights including back-to-back Daytona 500 wins (‘94, ’95) as crew chief for Sterling Marling, 1991 AC Delco crew chief of the year and 1992 Western Auto crew chief of the year.
Be Sure to Tune In: The Food City 500 is set to go green at 2 pm ET and will be broadcast live on FOX, PRN radio and Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128.
