Atlanta’s Camry…The No. 36 360 OTC Toyota Mike Skinner is scheduled to drive in the Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway is chassis No. 15. This car has been utilized several times this season including two weeks ago at Lowe’s (Concord, N.C.) Motor Speedway. It was also driven to the team’s highest finish of the season at Kansas Speedway in September.
Slugger Takes Over…Richard “Slugger” Labbe will take over duties as crew chief of the No. 36 team for at least the next two races. Labbe, a 39-year-old native of Saco, Maine, has been busy for the last several months working with BDR newcomer Jacques Villeneuve.
Skinner’s Career Stats…Skinner hopes to make his 245th career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start when the green flag waves Sunday afternoon. He made his first career Cup Series start in April 1986 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and finished 21st (qualified 24th) in his first Cup Series start in Atlanta in 1997.
Skinner at Atlanta…Skinner has made 13 starts on the 1.54-mile speedway during his Cup Series career, starting as high as second (1999). He has earned five top-10 finishes in Cup Series competition in Atlanta. He has also experienced a great deal of success there in the Busch and Truck Series events. In two Busch Series outings, Skinner has scored one win (1999) and in six NASCAR Craftsman Series events, Skinner has started from the pole position on three occasions and, in fact, has never started lower than fourth. He has also scored three top-10 and two top-five finishes including a win at the track earlier this season.
BDR at AMS…Competitors driving Bill Davis Racing-owned cars have been racing at the track since 1993 and have made 43 starts. Those drivers have posted three top-five and seven top-10 finishes.
Listen and Watch…Qualifying for the Pep Boys Auto 500 is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 26. The 325-lap event is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET Sunday, Oct. 28, and will broadcast LIVE on ABC (TV), PRN (radio) and Sirius Satellite Radio.
