Camping World Becomes Official Partner of NASCAR
Company Adds Sanctioning Body Relationship and Developmental Series Sponsorship To Team and Track Deals
In addition to its new position as the Official Outdoor and RV Retail Partner of NASCAR,” Camping World in 2008 will also entitle NASCAR’s top developmental series, The NASCAR Camping World Series, which encompasses the long-standing Grand National Division, East and West Series.
“The opportunity to meet and provide services for thousands of camping enthusiasts assembling at the race track is a big deal for us,” said Marcus Lemonis, Chairman and CEO, Camping World. “This partnership with NASCAR builds on Camping World’s successful team and track relationships and is a logical progression to reach people with two uniquely American passions – stock car racing and RV-ing. This sponsorship is a unique way to combine the two.”
As FreedomRoads/Camping World has grown, the company has steadily expanded its involvement in NASCAR. Camping World is extensively involved in the NASCAR Busch Series (to be renamed the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2008) through a primary sponsorship relationship with Kevin Harvick Inc. Camping World’s 2008 sponsorship with KHI will include primary sponsorship of 17 NASCAR Nationwide Series races as well as full season primary sponsorship for Ron Hornaday Jr., the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion. Additionally, through its relationship with Richard Childress Racing, the company will sponsor Clint Bowyer in 10 NASCAR Nationwide Series races in 2008.
Camping World is title sponsor of NASCAR Nationwide Series events at California Speedway, New Hampshire International Speedway, and Daytona International Speedway, where it operates a permanent retail store in the infield. Camping World plans to forge relationships with additional racetracks in 2008 and establish more retail stores at the track, including at the Camping World-branded infield at California Speedway.
National research shows that NASCAR fans are more likely than non-fans to be outdoors enthusiasts, participating in a variety of outdoor activities and owning multiple types of outdoor gear. NASCAR fans are more likely to have purchased outdoor gear more recently and to shop retail channels where outdoor gear is typically available. Additionally, NASCAR fans are twice as likely as non-fans to stay at campgrounds. These fans are also three times as likely as non-fans to travel by recreational vehicle.
“The pairing of ‘America’s Outdoor Store’ and the nation’s No. 1 motorsport is a strong one,” said Steve Phelps, NASCAR’s Chief Marketing Officer. “As Camping World grows, the company is increasing its involvement in every level of NASCAR. We are especially grateful for Camping World’s support of NASCAR’s developmental series which are very important to the future of the sport, and its efforts to help establish affordable sports entertainment for both spectators and competitors.”
NASCAR’s partnership with FreedomRoads/Camping World reflects the increasing involvement in NASCAR among leaders in the outdoor industry, according to Phelps. FreedomRoads/Camping World is the exclusive nationwide retailer of Featherlite Luxury Coaches, which is the Official Luxury Coach of NASCAR. Customers of Featherlite Coaches' luxury motor coaches have access to FreedomRoads/Camping World's sales and service centers throughout the United States.
