DEI Turns to Tony Eury Sr. to Lead New Testing Team

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 6, 2007) – Tony Eury Sr., who worked on the first team ever fielded by Dale Earnhardt Inc. in 1985, has been named today to lead the company’s newest team. DEI has been building this full-time operation, devoted primarily to testing, since late April.

Eury first led a DEI team when he became crew chief of the Busch Series car driven by the late Dale Earnhardt. Between 1988 and 1995, the two earned 21 victories and 65 top-five finishes in 136 races.

Paired with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Eury helped the third generation driver win 13 races on his way to consecutive Busch Series championships in 1998 and 1999. The team moved to NASCAR Nextel Cup competition and, between 2000 and 2004, Eury was crew chief for the first 15 wins of Earnhardt’s career.

Through the first 13 races of 2007, Eury has been crew chief of the No. 15 Menard’s Chevrolet driven by Paul Menard. Dave Charpentier, team engineer, will serve as the team’s interim crew chief.
