MARC GOOSSENS - No. 90 Citifinancial Ford Fusion (Finished 43rd) - WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END? "We don't know. The upper arm of the suspension is broken. Coming out of turn one, as I turned into turn two the car just ran straight ahead into the wall, so either the tire came off the rim or that happened because of the arm breaking. It was a big impact, but there was nothing I could do about it. As I turned the wheel the car just went straight ahead." HOW WAS YOUR CAR UP TO THAT POINT? "We had ups-and-downs. I think we had a reasonable car, but the race didn't come to us. We had some problems in practice, but the guys from Robert Yates Racing did a great job in putting another engine in and therefore we had to start from the back. There were too many cautions and I couldn't make my way to the front. It was a shame because I would have loved to see that Citifinancial car up there. It's unfortunate."
GREG BIFFLE - No. 16 Subway/National Guard Ford Fusion (Finished 38th) - "It was unfortunate. I don't know what happened back there. I don't know if I ran Kyle out of room or the guys are saying it looked like maybe he couldn't stop as quick and got in the back of us. I'm not sure. I really, really honestly don't know what happened, but we had some trouble besides that. The car wasn't stopping for some reason. We were just looking at the brakes and the brake pads don't even have 1/16th of wear on them. I bet the back brakes are about gone. In turn one the thing just never stopped all day, so we're frustrated about that with what happened to our brakes. That stuck us in the back because we couldn't pass anybody. You pass on a road course under braking. That's the only time you pass, so that was unfortunate. Our car handled OK, but we couldn't stop with anybody. That was sort of frustrating, but getting run into in the middle part, I don't know what happened. We'll just have to take a look at it and see if I made a mistake or somebody else did. I don't know." WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE CHASE NOW? "I don't have any. We just run every race that we can. We've got four more races before the chase and we'll just see what happens."
JAMIE MCMURRAY - No. 26 Crown Royal Ford Fusion (Finished 3rd) - "I had to worry about Robby behind me because he was really good on restarts and when I was on the outside my car just didn't have any grip. We had brake problems yesterday and all the guys did a great job getting the brakes to work. I had good brake balance all day and that's important when you come to Watkins Glen." STRATEGY WAS BIG FOR YOU TODAY? "Yeah. Bob Osborne earned his keep today for sure. He made a great decision to pit there and he felt confident that we could make it on fuel. I tell you, Jack and all the guys at Yates have done a great an incredible job of getting us good fuel mileage and my motor today was unreal. When I would go up through the esses, I could out-brake guys into the inner-loop because I had a huge run on them. I had huge power today." WHAT WOULD SALVAGE THIS YEAR FOR YOU? "Winning for sure and, really, I thought I was better than Kevin. When I restarted second or third and I saw Kevin was leading, I really thought I could get by him and Tony was so far back, but Tony's car was better on the short runs it seemed like, but it was a good day for us." IT WAS A GOOD DAY OVERALL. "We certainly needed a good run and we didn't tear anything up. The guys had great pit strategy and we had a great pit stop when we came in and that's so important here."
CARL EDWARDS - No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion (Finished 5th) - "Considering we started the day with a flat right-front tire, I thought we were done. I'm very proud of my guys and the pit strategy. Wally had a great pit strategy so it was a lot of fun. Wally said, 'I've got a plan,' so that's what we did and it worked out. That was fun." WHAT HAPPENED ON THE LAST LAP? "It looked like Boris was gonna out-brake Ryan and Ryan went to cut in front of him and I think Boris was just going too fast. I think I went in between them. I don't know exactly what happened, but that was wild. That was fun." A FEW MORE TOP FIVES AND YOU MIGHT BE BACK IN THIS CHASE HUNT. "This was one of those races I was really nervous about. I can't believe we ended up top five here. That's good."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Ford Fusion (Finished 8th) - "The guys did a good job on strategy. It's the same strategy we used at Sears Point, we came in and put four (tires) under caution and then come in and get gas only and that brought us out third. I just got a little too loose at the end, but it was a great job and a great run. The car was great. We wanted to use the strategy too, but the guys did a good job. It's one of the best cars I've had on a road course and it was fun."
BORIS SAID - No. 60 SoBe No Fear Ford Fusion (Finished 6th) - "The first half of the race was terrible. I just missed the handling a little bit and made a bunch of mistakes wheel-hopping, but we came back. I really wanted fifth and I was disappointed in Ryan Newman. He was running out of gas on the last lap and it's OK to block one way, but he blocked me once and moved twice and I got into him. I couldn't help it. I was already committed to that side, so I was disappointed in that. Sixth place isn't bad, fifth would have been better but, still, the four races I've done this year I'm pretty pleased." YOU'RE DONE WITH THE FOUR RACES YOU SCHEDULED FOR THE SEASON. ARE THERE ANY PROSPECTS FOR MORE THIS YEAR? "I don't think anymore this year, but we're just gonna get to work on next year. I really want to do more races and build our team up. We've got a great bunch of guys and my relationship with Roush and the cars and motors we're getting is just great. I shouldn't be disappointed with three top 10's, but I really would have like to try and win one of these road courses. I just missed the setup a little bit today, but next year with the car of tomorrow, we're gonna get to work on it and really develop it and come out strong for the road races."
JAMIE MCMURRAY PRESS CONFERENCE
"The only place I thought I could get by the 29 was in the inner-loop. He was just slowing down a lot getting into the inner-loop and I got underneath him on one of the restarts and I didn't think he would give it to me and he kind of did, but I already lost all my momentum, so I just kind of fell back in behind him. I saw Tony was in 10th or 12th whenever I was already in second and I didn't think there was any way he would ever get to us. I thought there were enough good cars that would maybe hold him up, but it looked like he got by like three or four cars immediately. His car would go so good, it felt like to me, on new tires. I thought your car did kind of the opposite of what you said, but his car was just really quick there at the restart and I just had to try and maintain the track position that I had."
DID THE CAUTIONS HURT YOUR RHYTHM? "The cautions hurt our car, the same way in the Busch race yesterday. It seemed like you couldn't get the tires cleaned off enough and the brakes would cool down, so I would wheel-hop real bad and I was just real loose on the restarts. The longer my car would run, it seemed like the better it would get and the better it felt."
IS THIS THE BEST YOU'VE FELT SINCE DOVER? "Yeah. We went and did the tire test at Atlanta on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and Bob built, it wasn't a brand new car but it was the car I ran in the all-star race that we tore up. They stripped it and hung a body on it that is different than I guess what we've had in the past - not a lot, but the numbers worked out really good on it. It's been our best car as far as side force and total downforce, and we took it to the Atlanta tire test and it just drove great. It's been a very tough year. It's been a huge struggle and it's been very frustrating, not only for me but for everybody on our team. When you can have good runs and everybody had a great time today. We had a really good car last week at Indy and had a little bit of trouble in the pits, so we made some adjustments there and we had some great pit stops today. That's encouraging. We didn't really miss it in one area. It's been a little bit of a struggle with everybody, whether it was me or the pit stops, just everything, so it's getting better. It feels really good that Bob Osborne is gonna stay with our team. I really like Bob. He's super-intelligent and it's just nice to know that we're gonna be a team together for the rest of this year and for next year and, hopefully, for years to come and you can build on that. It's very tough when you keep changing people, so I feel very good about the rest of the year."
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE ROUSH'S NEW ROAD COURSE ACE AFTER THIS WEEKEND? "No. It seems every year there's always somebody, honestly, that it kind of happens unexpected. I know Greg has done really well here and Mark always runs well on the road courses. Whether it's a road course race or an oval track race, it seems like all your track position and your pit strategy and your pit stops plays a huge role and you have to have a little bit of luck on your side once in a while. When you come to road course, if you have a halfway decent car and you can get track position, it's easier to maintain it than it is anywhere else. We had a great car today. We passed a lot of cars and, I tell you what, I complained about my motor last week at Indy and this week my motor up through the esses made it so easy for me to pass. It was unreal how much more power I felt like I had than anyone else. The only cars I got around that I felt like were even equal to me would be my teammates or Elliott Sadler when I got around him, so huge props to our engine shop today at Roush-Yates."
HOW MUCH DID THE LAPS YESTERDAY HELP TODAY AND HOW WERE THE TRACK CONDITIONS? "The Busch cars stop so much better than what the Cup cars do. You have like an inch or inch-and-a-half more rear spoiler and it shoves the back of the car in and you can run more rear brake bias. It's very hard to wheel-hop a Busch car here. It was for me at least. I just kept cranking rear brake in it and the more rear brake you can run at these place, the harder you can brake. It seems like the wheel-hop is your limiting factor on how far you can drive in a corner. So when you take 100 horsepower away and you add 100-and-some pounds of downforce, the Busch cars are just a lot easier to drive. Getting to run on Saturdays is always a big deal, but I think when you come to a road course - and I think we've only probably run 30 laps of practice the whole time in a Cup car, and then I got to run 80 or 90 laps yesterday in the Busch car, it makes a difference, I think, for everybody no matter how good you are at road racing."
