Aaron’s 499 - Kyle Busch Notes

KYLE BUSCH NOTES & QUOTES

CHASSIS 366 FOR '5' TEAM:
Crew chief Alan Gustafson has tapped Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 366 as Busch's primary option for Talladega. The car, which has visited the wind tunnel on three separate occasions, served as the No. 5 team's backup for the Daytona 500. It has never seen racing action.

HENDRICK GOING FOR SEVENTH 'DEGA WIN:
A Hendrick Motorsports victory this weekend would break a three-way tie in the Talladega record book. With six NEXTEL Cup wins at the track, car owner Rick Hendrick currently shares second overall with Ranier Racing and Dale Earnhardt Inc. Richard Childress heads up the list with nine first-place finishes at the 2.66-mile tri-oval.

LOWE'S TESTING:
The No. 5 Kellogg's team will join the open testing session at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The No. 25 GMAC team will test the 1.5-mile oval Tuesday and Wednesday.

KYLE CELEBRATING BIRTHDAY:
Busch, driver of the No. 5 Kellogg's Chevrolets, will celebrate his 21st birthday on May 2.

GRAB AN AUTOGRAPH:
Kyle Busch will greet fans and sign autographs at the No. 5 Kellogg's trackside souvenir trailer on Sunday beginning at 9:50 a.m. local time.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS:
(ON RACING AT TALLADEGA.) "The speedway program at Hendrick Motorsports is impressive. With all of our cars making a strong Daytona showing, Talladega should be just as good. It's all about staying out of trouble. Last year, I tried to stay out of the hornets' nest and just rode in the back for a while. When we finally decided to go racing, we got caught up in someone else's mess. I've never finished a Cup race at Talladega so our first goal is to finish."

BUSCH:
(WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON THE NEW BUMPERS?) "There will be a little bit different racing. You're not going to be able to bump as much or as hard as we have in the past. I think everybody is going to save their stuff until the end of the race, but you definitely will see some beating and banging then. When you hit 20 laps to go, that means crunch time. That's when you usually see the guys making their moves."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS:
(ON THE NEW BUMPERS AT TALLADEGA.) "NASCAR has added a steel plate in the noses of the car for Talladega to cut down on bump drafting. Kyle will have to take care of his nose because they won't 'give' like they have in the past. I think many guys will forget in the heat of the moment, so there's going to be a lot of front-end damage, overheating and the like. We'll just have to remind Kyle to protect that nose."

JEFF DICKERSON, SPOTTER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS:
(ON THE SPOTTER'S ROLE AT TALLADEGA.) "My job as a spotter is to give Kyle as much information as possible. I tell him which line is moving better and which line has a run. The cars close so fast on each other that usually by the time I get the words out of my mouth to clear him, the move has already happened. The track itself at Talladega is so much wider than Daytona. That's why you'll see three-wide racing so much, because they can actually hold the pedal to the floor the entire way around the track and stay in a line. It's all about communication."
