Aaron’s 499 - Jeremy Mayfield Notes

No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger Race Facts
Talladega Superspeedway -- NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series

Driver: Jeremy Mayfield
Team Director: Chris Andrews
Car Director: Kirk Almquist
Engineer: Tim Malinovsky
Team Owner: Ray Evernham
Chassis: No. 114
Car Info: Tested at Daytona in January; served as the backup car for the Daytona 500.

JEREMY MAYFIELD QUOTES

"It would be great to go to Talladega with a plan in place to draft with your teammates or a specific group of drivers. It just doesn’t work that way. Your car may not work well in that group. You have to take advantage of the opportunities as they present themselves. Picking the right drafting partners at the right time is the difference between a good finish and disappointment at Talladega.

“The key is keeping the car clean. Minor damage can upset the car to the point you can’t drive it. That’s what happened to us at Daytona. I was running in the top 15, but sustained damage to the front end early in the race. That spoiled our day. It doesn’t have to be the big one that puts you out of contention at Talladega.

“We still have handling issues with our No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger. Chris (Andrews, team director) and my entire crew will find the answer. We’re not the only team having problems and bad luck. We’re not sitting back waiting for it to change. We’re going to change it ourselves.”
