NOTES
This Week’s Race Car at Texas Motor Speedway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 170 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. Built new for 2006, this is the same Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet Bowyer raced to a career-best third-place finish Labor Day weekend at California Speedway. Bowyer also raced this car to a fourth-place result at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In August at Michigan, he was running third with three laps to go when the motor let go, ultimately leaving him 33rd in the final rundown. Bowyer also raced Chassis No. 170 at Kansas Speedway where he led 40 laps, before a brush with the turn two wall left him with a ninth-place finish.
Texas Tradition … This weekend, Bowyer’s Jack Daniel’s Chevy will carry a special Texas-themed paint scheme. Texas residents, 21 or older, voted online for one of three designs from April 1-June 4 and over 50 percent of those who voted chose the winning scheme. Die casts of this weekend’s car will be available for sale trackside at the Jack Daniel’s souvenir trailer.
Texas Truck Trifecta … In addition to his usual NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series obligations, Bowyer will get behind the wheel of Morgan-Dollar Motorsports’ No. 46 Chevrolet Silverado for this weekend’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. The race will mark Bowyer’s third-career NCTS start and his truck will be sponsored by Jack Daniel’s. The Silverado 350 from Texas Motor Speedway will be televised live on SPEED Friday, November 3 beginning at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Coming Down to the Wire… On Saturday, Bowyer returns to the seat of the No. 2 Timberland Pro Chevy for the O’Reilly Challenge NASCAR Busch Series race. The 33rd race on the 2006 Busch Series calendar will be televised live in TNT Saturday, November 4 beginning at 2 p.m. EST. With three races remaining, Bowyer is third in the Busch Series championship point standings, only 67 points out of second. Kevin Harvick locked up his second Busch Series driver’s championship two races ago at Charlotte. With Harvick’s win last week at Memphis, team owner Richard Childress clinched his third Busch Series owner’s title since RCR began fielding a full-time entry in NASCAR’s junior circuit seven seasons ago.
Are you Experienced … Bowyer will visit the Jack Daniel’s Experience Sunday, November 5 from 10:45-11 a.m. The Jack Daniel’s Experience is a 53-foot tractor trailer filled with artifacts, state-of-the art video monitors, sound system and graphics to give race fans a taste of Lynchburg and the Distillery. The JDX is located outside of turn four, near the front straightaway, on speedway property and will be open on Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., on Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and on Sunday from 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
Catch the Cup Action … The Dickies 500 from Texas Motor Speedway will take the green flag Sunday, November 5 beginning at 2:30 p.m. EST and will be televised live on NBC. The event will also be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network (PRN) and XM Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 34th of 36 races on the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series schedule will air live on SPEED, PRN and XM Satellite Radio Friday, November 3 at 4:30 p.m. EST.
CLINT BOWYER QUOTES
You had a pretty good day going at Texas in the spring up until the last lap.
“Yeah, we had a little help but that’s behind us. We had a good car and were headed for a decent finish and got wrecked on the last lap. It’s frustrating to get wrecked any time. It’s kind of like I was saying at Martinsville. You wreck 30 laps into the race and have to drive the car for the rest of the race all torn up with a crutch. Then on the other hand, you’ve raced hard and busted your butt all day long and get wrecked on the last lap and it becomes all for nothing. I’m not sure which one is worse. Texas and tracks like it are a lot of fun. The track is definitely high speed and the groove is widening out. Honestly, I think it will get even better. We’re taking the same car we raced at Indy, Michigan, California and Kansas, so we know we have a good race car; we just need to close the deal this weekend.”
Did you learn anything last time at Texas that you can take back and hopefully, build upon?
“That’s the biggest part about our whole year. Going back to these tracks a second time, we’re getting better results. It’s a big help having a notebook to work from the second time around. It’s not as much of a crapshoot as it was at the beginning of the year. Hopefully, we’ll be able to capitalize on our notes from the spring race and get a good finish.”
As well as your teammates have run this year, do you feel like you turn is just around the corner?
“It’s a lot of fun to be able to sit back and watch my teammates, not only in the Chase but battle each other for the championship. I really think the championship is going to come down to one of those two guys. Our win is around the corner. It’s starting to show. We’re leading laps and we’re racing in the top five. When you start doing those things on a consistent basis you’re going to get a win sooner or later. I think we can get one by the end of the year. I’d love to be able to pull that Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet in Victory Lane and give Richard and Jack Daniel’s their first win with the No. 07. I know the party would be a good one. That’s for sure.”
