Samsung/Radioshack 500 - Texas Motor Speedway
Kahne Captures Texas-Sized Win from the Pole
Kasey Kahne gave himself and his team an early birthday present at Texas Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon. Kahne, driver of the No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW, Ray Evernham-owned Dodge Charger, took the lead with 17 laps remaining and ran away from runnerup Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart to win the Samsung/Radio Shack 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race before a standing-room only crowd. Kahne, who will turn 26 years old Monday, won the race from the pole position, the second time this season the youngster from the state of Washington has won a race after posting the fastest qualifying speed. Kahne also won the Atlanta race earlier this season after sitting on the pole. Trailing Kahne, Kenseth and Stewart were rookie Kevin Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Richard Childress teammate Jeff Burton, Scott Riggs, rookie Martin Truex Jr., Mark Martin and Bobby Labonte. Points leader Jimmie Johnson, who never ran with the leaders throughout the 334-lap race, wound up 11th. Kahne's victory provided the 11th different winner in the 11th running of this event. The race also produced eight caution flags, several of them involving frontrunners. Greg Biffle, who took the lead early in the race and was setting a torrid pace, was bumped from behind by Kurt Busch and slammed into the outside safety barrier, ending Biffle's day on the 83rd lap. Biffle had lapped more than half the field at that point in the race. J. J. Yeley, who ran with the leaders, spun with 145 laps, ending his chances to win, and Carl Edwards did the same thing with just 79 laps to go.
Kahne Bullets to Texas Pole
Kasey Kahne won the Bud Pole for the Samsung/Radioshack 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon. Kahne was the only driver to eclipse the 190 mile per hour mark, qualifying in at an average speed of 190.315 mph in a total of 28.374 seconds. The pole is the second of the 2006 season for Kahne and the eighth of his career. Rookie J.J. Yeley will join Kahne on row number one, starting second, while Mark Martin will roll off from the third position. Jeff Green and Greg Biffle round out the top-five starting spots in the lineup for Sunday’s race in Texas.
