Chevy Rock & Roll 400 - Kyle Busch Notes

PREVIEW: KYLE BUSCH (NO. KELLOGG'S CHEVROLET)
VENUE: RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY (.75-MILE OVAL)
CIRCUIT: NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES (RACE 26 OF 36)
EVENT: SATURDAY, SEPT. 9 (400 LAPS, 300 MILES)

22ND WILL DO IT: Kyle Busch and the No. 5 Kellogg's team, fifth in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series standings, will clinch a spot in the 2006 Chase by finishing 22nd or better in Saturday night's Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

GUSTAFSON PICKS 'TWISTED SISTER': Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 367 for Saturday night's event at Richmond. In keeping with the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 theme, the No. 5 Kellogg's team refers to the car as "Twisted Sister" because it is almost identical -- a "sister" car -- to the machine that won at Phoenix last November and in July at New Hampshire. It already has a pole position to its credit, which came earlier this season at Phoenix.

RICHMOND RECORD IMPRESSIVE: Busch has competed in three Cup-level races at Richmond, finishing in the top five in each. He has led in two of those events, pacing 14 laps, and holds an average finish of 4.3 at the .75-mile oval. It is the best average finish at RIR among the current top 10 in the NEXTEL Cup championship standings.

TOP-10 TIDBIT: Busch has spent 21 of the season's 25 weeks ranked in the NEXTEL Cup top 10. One year ago he was 22nd in the standings heading into the September race at Richmond.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLET: (ON THE POINTS BATTLE.) "You try not to consume yourself with the closeness of the points, because it can make you a nervous wreck and you can lose your focus. That's one thing I don't want to do. If we keep doing what we've been doing all season, we'll be there at the checkers."

BUSCH: (ON RICHMOND.) "Performance-wise, I love that track. For some reason, it's always been good to me. We're taking a great car and expect the same type of runs we've had there. It can be a tough place, but if you have a good car and can make it pass on the track, it can be a good deal. The worst part at Richmond is lapped traffic and getting caught up in someone else's mistake."

BUSCH: (ON THE FINAL RACE TO THE CHASE.) "It's still close -- real close. We'll see how it plays out, but there are 11 guys going for 10 spots so at the end of the race Saturday night there are going to be some really happy people and some really upset people. We want to be the happy people."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLET: (ON PAST PERFORMANCE AT RICHMOND.) "We've always had a real good car at Richmond and barring no issues we will have a good car again this weekend. The track at Richmond suits Kyle's driving style and for some reason the car we've built handles good there right off the truck. We were able to test at RIR earlier this season and will rely on some of those notes."

GUSTAFSON: (ON A POTENTIAL CHASE BERTH FOR A SECOND-YEAR TEAM.) "Some people would have never guessed we could do this, but I'm glad to be here and hopefully prove them wrong. This is Kyle's second season with the team, and he's a wheelman. The team itself has been together for five or six seasons now. With the resources at Hendrick Motorsports, we belong in the top-10. We've controlled our own destiny and no one gave us any handouts this season. I'm proud of our accomplishments and we have one more race to put behind us and then we can run for this championship."
