Crown Royal 400 - Kyle Busch Notes

KYLE BUSCH NOTES & QUOTES

BUSCH CONSISTENT AT RICHMOND:
Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 5 Kellogg's Chevrolets, was the only driver to post top-five finishes in both NEXTEL Cup races at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway last season. The Las Vegas native notched back-to-back fourth-place results at the track.

PHOENIX WINNER SELECTED FOR RIR:
Kellogg's Chevy crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected one of his most reliable cars as the primary option for Saturday's NEXTEL Cup race. Last season, Busch drove Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 366 to a win at Phoenix International Raceway and a pair of top-five finishes at Richmond.

HENDRICK GOING FOR EIGHTH WIN:
A NEXTEL Cup win Saturday would be the eighth at Richmond for car owner Rick Hendrick. With seven victories, he is currently tied with Junior Johnson and Bud Moore for second on the track's all-time win list. Petty Engineering has won 15 races there.

BUSCH MAKING NINTH RIR START:
Busch has made eight combined NASCAR starts at Richmond in the NEXTEL Cup Series (2), Busch Series (4) and Craftsman Truck Series (2). He earned his first-ever NASCAR victory there in May 2004 after starting from the pole and has recorded top-five finishes in half of his RIR appearances.

KYLE TO GREET FANS SATURDAY:
Kyle Busch will greet fans and sign autographs at the No. 5 Kellogg's Racing trackside souvenir trailer on Saturday at 4:35 p.m. local time.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS:
(ON THE TEAM'S TEST THIS WEEK AT LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY.) "If we stick with smaller fuel cells we should go to a softer tire. If we stick to this tire, we need to do away with the smaller fuel cell. Literally, I think we can run 600 miles on this tire. The tire is so durable I don't think we're going to need pit stops. It was a little bit hairy out there because there was absolutely no grip. The tires aren't wearing so we're not putting down any rubber (on the racing surface) like we usually do. We ran 40 laps on a set of tires and there was no wear at all. Humpy (Wheeler) did a great job because the track is really smooth and its going to be a good, fast race, but passing might be challenging until the track gets some grip. It won't be too fun racing side-by-side because you don't know if your car is going to skate out from under you. The test was a challenge for us, but I love the track."

BUSCH:
(ON HIS SUCCESS AT RICHMOND.) "There's just something I really like about Richmond. I got my first Busch Series win there and last year in the Kellogg's Chevy we finished fourth in both races. Some guys say it's hard to pass, but I haven't had much of an issue."

BUSCH:
(IS IT DIFFICULT TRANSITIONING FROM A RESTRICTOR-PLATE TRACK LIKE TALLADEGA TO A SHORT TRACK LIKE RICHMOND?) "It's pretty easy. Plate racing is mindless really. You just have the pedal to the floor and handling isn't an issue. When you go 400 laps around a short track like Richmond, you've got to have your stuff together. The crew will have to be on their game because we stand to lose lots of ground on pit road if something goes wrong. The key will be to put ourselves in position to make a move with 50 to go, and stay in that position. Patience will be a key for everyone, because there are always a bunch of cars that go a lap down and you're usually fighting lapped traffic all night long. When you line up for restarts, it takes 10 to 20 laps to get past all the lap-down guys and resume racing for position. But I like it. It's Saturday night racing at its best."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS:
(ON RACING AT RICHMOND.) "Last year we had two great runs at Richmond. We led some laps, but never got the car handling just right to put it in position to win. Our test went really well, and the car we're taking has had top-10 runs at New Hampshire and Richmond last year, not to mention winning at Phoenix. Richmond is a fast race track, and we just need to keep Kyle focused on the big picture -- stay up front -- and then it will be up to him to get it done in the end. Saving your stuff is always a key at Richmond -- being easy on the brakes and staying out of trouble. We have a great chance to win the race. I think we'll be one of the cars to beat."
