DENNY HAMLIN, FEDEX GROUND CHEVROLET: YOUR CAR LOOKED STRONG IN BOTH PRACTICE SESSIONS. “The car is really strong. I knew the car was like this yesterday. It was better in race trim than it was in qualifying. We feel like we’ve got a top-three car and hopefully we can get us a top-five this weekend. That would definitely help our cause as far as the Chase is concerned.” DID THE CAR DRIVER DIFFERENT TODAY IN RACE TRIM WITH THE COLDER TEMPERATURES? “It drove about the same as it did yesterday. It wasn’t really hot yesterday so the track didn’t change a whole lot. Our car was still pretty good and we made some adjustments on there and made it even better. I’m real happy with the whole effort.” YOU PUT A BEAUTY MARK ON THE RIGHT REAR FENDER. “Coming off of 4 there you push to the edge and I definitely found out where the wall was. Luckily we scraped it and didn’t hit it.” WHERE DO YOU PASS HERE? “It looks like off of 1 is where I’m really good right now. Hopefully we can make our passes there and we’ll see what happens and off the tunnel turn we’re also real strong. I’m looking forward to Sunday’s race.”
J.J. YELEY, No. 18 HUSQVARNA CHEVROLET: ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE CAR? “Not really, course it could be worse. I could be like the guys that are behind me. We’ve changed a lot of things on the car, front end, back end and we just can’t make the car respond like I would like it to. I’m just disappointed. I know that we’re kind of in between where the teammates are running but we just can’t get a good fix for what we’re struggling with on the racetrack. I’m on my way to Nashville and I’ll think about it and Steve [Addington, crew chief] will have some time to think about it and maybe we can scheme up something that will pick us up a couple of tenths. We’re not bad. We’re a top-15 car but we obviously want to win races, not run in the top-15.” DID THE COLD WEATHER THROW YOU OFF? “No, it’s nice out. We’ve got a nice cool breeze and don’t have to worry about getting hot. I know the racetrack is a lot faster now than what it was in practice yesterday. It’s probably closer to what the track conditions were at the end of qualifying. It’s one of those deals where the track temperature stays the same
tomorrow we’ve got a good baseline. If everything changes, then everyone is back guessing at what they need to do to the racecars.”
REED SORENSON, No. 41 TARGET DODGE: “We got better and then we made a couple of changes and made it worse but we know how to get it back to where we had it. I don’t think we’re extremely strong but I think we’re okay. I feel like the racetrack will change if it gets a little sun, maybe. Once we get some laps behind other cars we’ll see how we are. You kind of don’t know what to expect here as far as the track going from practice to the race. We’ll have to wait and see what it does.” DID THE COLD WEATHER THROW YOU OFF TODAY? “No. If it was hot or cold or regular I wouldn’t know the difference. It didn’t really hurt me. It’s windy out there. It seems like you get a push down the front straightaway and it pushes you off into turn 1 pretty good.”
