Pocono 500 - Kyle Busch Notes

KYLE BUSCH NOTES & QUOTES
NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES

CARQUEST BACK ON '5': Kyle Busch's No. 5 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS will carry the colors of CARQUEST Auto Parts this weekend at Pocono Raceway. It will mark the second outing of 2006 for the CARQUEST paint scheme, which will appear later this season at Chicagoland Speedway, Pocono Raceway and Texas Motor Speedway.

HENDRICK GOING FOR 11TH POCONO WIN: Car owner Rick Hendrick has posted 10 career NEXTEL Cup victories at Pocono Raceway, putting him first on the track's all-time win list. Roger Penske is second with seven first-place finishes there.

AIR BUSCH: Busch will log 5,456 miles of air miles to compete in stand-alone NASCAR Busch Series events the next three weekends. He will fly roundtrip between Long Pond, Pa., and Nashville, Tenn., this Saturday (1,374 miles); Brooklyn, Mich., and Sparta, Ky., on June 17 (442 miles); and Sonoma, Calif., and West Allis, Wis., on June 24 (3,640 miles).

BUSCH CONTINUES DOVER STREAK: With a fifth-place finish Sunday, Busch now has top-five finishes in each of his three career NEXTEL Cup starts at Dover, Del. Last season, he posted a pair of runner-up results at the track.

HOMECOMING FOR KIRK: Josh Kirk, the 25-year-old rear-tire changer for Busch's No. 5 Chevrolets, hails from Chambersburg, Pa., about 170 miles south of Pocono Raceway.

TRIPLE THREAT: Over the weekend, Busch entered all three NASCAR events at Dover and came away with three top-10 performances. He finished 10th in Friday's Craftsman Truck Series race, sixth in Saturday's Busch Series event and fifth in NEXTEL Cup competition Sunday.

'5' TAKING CHASSIS 352 TO POCONO: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 352 -- a car that finished seventh at Darlington, S.C. -- as the primary option for Sunday's NEXTEL Cup event at Pocono.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 CARQUEST CHEVROLETS: (ON HIS DOUBLE-DUTY, POCONO-NASHVILLE WEEKEND.) "It's going to be interesting doing the Cup and Busch Series races this weekend in two different states. I'm probably going to be one tired pup when the checkers fall at Pocono, but there's been a lot of planning to get me from 'A' to 'B' so I don't have to do much but show up. Justin Labonte is going to help out on the Busch Series end, so it should all work out."

BUSCH: (DID YOUR FIFTH-PLACE FINISH AT DOVER TAKE SOME PRESSURE OFF POINTS-WISE?) "Really, it just helped us mentally. It's hard to crash two weeks in a row and have ground to make up (in the standings), but when I get in that car I just think about my team and how to get the job done as best as I can."

BUSCH: (ON POCONO.) "I was able to go there a few years ago and run in the ARCA race when we were still able to shift. That's a pretty cool thing being able to run around there shifting. Now Pocono isn't quite as fun because you can't shift, but it's still a difficult track because there are three distinct corners to it. There are a couple distinct grooves that you can run through Turn 1, but you have to run the Tunnel Turn and Turn 3 on the bottom. It's all about getting down along the long front straightway and having some horsepower. It should be one of our better tracks this year. Hendrick Motorsports always runs well there between Jimmie (Johnson), Jeff (Gordon) and Brian (Vickers)."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 CARQUEST CHEVROLETS: (ON DOVER, POCONO AND UPCOMING RACES.) "We really pulled a rabbit of out a hat in Dover. It just shows how good this team is, really. We had a 15th-place car, qualified 30th, led some laps and had strong pit stops all day long. I was really impressed with the total team effort because Dover is a tough track, but we did well. Moving forward to Pocono, we have 12 races before the Chase and can't afford another mulligan. I believe this team has all it takes to be there after Richmond (Va.), we just had a rough month of May and are a little behind the eight ball because two of our best cars were basically destroyed. We'll put the hours in, make up the ground and get those cars rebuilt for some of the upcoming tracks."
