Pocono 500 - Ford Post-Race Quotes

ELLIOTT SADLER – No. 38 Mega M&M’s Fusion (finished 20th) – WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END? YOU WERE NINTH ON THE FINAL RE-START. “We just stayed out on old tires, trying to get some track position, just trying to get a top-10 or a top-15, but it just wasn’t meant to be today. We just struggled again today. We’re just having a hard time on the intermediate tracks right now even keeping up, and it’s very frustrating. The guys are working hard, we still need a lot of work to do. So, we’ll keep going and working on it and maybe run a little bit better at Michigan.”

JAMIE McMURRAY – No. 26 IRWIN Industrial Tools Fusion (finished 18th) – “It was just a long day for us. We qualified well, and then in Happy Hour, the car wasn’t very good so we kind of took a guess at it. The car was just extremely loose for the first 150 miles, and then we probably over-adjusted because we could never get it tight enough, and then it was way too tight for the last 50 laps. So, not a very good day, but sometimes our bad days have been like 42nd, so not good, but not horrendous.”DID YOU HAVE BRAKE PROBLEMS TODAY? “No.”

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 DeWalt Fusion (finished 5th) – “We didn’t really run very strong, but we finished really good. I don’t know how we get that done, but we did. That was a great finish and Robbie [Reiser, crew chief] did a good job, the pit crew did a good job. That was good.”

THERE WERE SOME RAKE PROBLEMS TODAY. DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY PROBLEMS? “Amazingly, no. We usually are the first one to have them. Last year we dropped out of this race with some brake problems. I certainly thought that before, but today they were good.”

WALLY BROWN – Crew Chief, No. 99 Office Depot Fusion (finished 25th) – BAD LUCK ON PIT ROAD, BUT A GOOD CAR… “Yeah, we had a great car today – top-five for sure and maybe a chance for a win. Just a bad deal on pit road and could never catch a break after that and get a lap back. We’ll just have to go on to Michigan and do our best there.”

WHAT HAPPENED ON PIT ROAD, AND IS IT UNUSUAL FOR IT TAKE THAT MUCH TIME TO GET A CAR OFF THE GROUND THAT IS DOWN ON ITS LEFT SIDE? “I’ve seen the jack slip out before, but it slipped out and nothing on the jack caught – usually the jack will catch it a little bit and there was just no way. They couldn’t get anything underneath the car to jack it up. We were in rough shape there.”

GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 National Guard/Subway Fusion (finished 6th) – “It was unbelievable to drive this race track without brakes. It was unfortunate. We could’ve ended up second. That Jeff Gordon wreck, something happened and I cut a tire, I drove over a piece the metal, and ‘poof,’ I heard it. The right-rear tire went flat, so we had to pit, unfortunately. But, it was a good run for the Subway car. It seems like we always have weird luck when we run the Subway paint scheme. But, pretty happy overall.”

YOU WERE 10TH ON THE RE-START AND FINISHED SIXTH. “I got stalled up a few times there or I could’ve probably got up further. I was thinking if they got real racy upfront, there was a possibility I could get up there and challenge for maybe third or fourth, but it just wasn’t true.”

YOU ARE NOW ON THE VERGE OF BEING IN THE TOP 10 IN THE STANDINGS (12TH PLACE, 27 POINTS BACK OF 10TH). WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? “I’m excited about it. It hasn’t come easy. This race, look how hard we had to work to get sixth. Came from the back twice, and then a flat right-rear with no laps to go, just frustrated.”

WOULD YOU HAVE HAD SOMETHING FOR THE 11 CAR? “No, if I would’ve stayed out I wouldn’t have been able to beat Denny. Denny had a great car, but for sure I would’ve been second. I don’t think Kurt could’ve beat me But, it was unfortunate.”

ON DENNY HAMLIN’S FIRST CAREER VICTORY. “It’s real exciting for your first time – especially a place like this. I won at Daytona my first time, so it’s pretty exciting for guys like that. He had really, really, good car.”

HE DIDN’T BACK INTO THE WIN. HE QUALIFIED WELL, HAD PROBLEMS EARLY AND STILL WON. “The whole key is just having a fast race car, and I had a pretty fast race car today – I had a second-place race car. If you give a driver a flawless race car, a good race car, it’s down on the race track – I was watching Denny; he could just yank the wheel through the tunnel turn, fly through there. I’m like all over the place, every lap I’m holding my breath, just trying to get the most I can out of it. When you’ve got a driving car like him, it makes it easier. It’s certainly never easy, but it makes it easier, and he had a great car.”
