BRIAN VICKERS NOTES & QUOTES
NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES
VICKERS' BEST CAME AT POCONO: Driving a No. 25 GMAC Chevrolet, Brian Vickers led six different times for a race-best 121 laps at Pocono Raceway in June 2005, marking the second time he had ever led the most laps in a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event. Vickers went on to finish second, his career-best Cup showing to date.
HENDRICK GOING FOR 11TH POCONO WIN: Car owner Rick Hendrick has posted 10 career NEXTEL Cup victories at Pocono Raceway, putting him first on the track's all-time win list. Roger Penske is second with seven first-place finishes there.
20TH ANNIVERSARY OF RICHMOND'S DOUBLE: Driving No. 25 Chevrolets, Tim Richmond won twice at Pocono Raceway in 1986, posting Hendrick Motorsports' first victories at the track. The first of those two performances -- on June 8, 1986 -- marked the first-ever win for the No. 25 Hendrick Motorsports team.
VICKERS A QUALITY QUALIFIER: In four NEXTEL Cup starts, Vickers has never qualified worse than eighth at Pocono. He maintains an average starting position of 4.75 and an average finish of 10.75 at the 2.5-mile track.
'25' AT HOME IN PENNSYLVANIA: Four members of the GMAC Racing crew will be making a visit to their home state when the NEXTEL Cup Series rolls into Pennsylvania this weekend. Rear-tire changer Jeff Fabian is from Everett, while gasman Chris Fasulka hails from nearby Wilkes-Barre. Also from the Keystone State are crew members Matt Myers, a rear-tire carrier tire from Ford City, and Dave Radney of Towanda, who is responsible for driving the team transporter.
ROSS INSURANCE WINS PROMO: GMAC Insurance has declared Ross Insurance Agency of Lancaster, Pa., as the winner of the GMAC Insurance Agency Pole Position promotion. As part of the grand prize, the agency will be honored with its name on the television panel of Vickers' No. 25 GMAC Chevrolet for Sunday's NEXTEL Cup event at Pocono Raceway.
VICKERS TO TOSS FIRST PITCH: The Somerset Patriots, who won the Atlantic Baseball League championship last season, will host "NASCAR Night" on Thursday at Commerce Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J. For the second consecutive year, Brian Vickers, driver of the No. 25 GMAC Chevrolets, will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs.
VICKERS TO SIGN SATURDAY: Following the completion of NEXTEL Cup final practice on Saturday, Brian Vickers will greet fans and sign autographs at the GMAC Racing souvenir hauler outside Pocono Raceway.
BRIAN VICKERS, DRIVER OF THE NO. 25 GMAC CHEVROLETS: (POCONO HAS BEEN A GOOD TRACK FOR YOU AND THE NO. 25 TEAM. WHY IS THAT?) "I'm a fan of racing at a variety of tracks and Pocono is definitely different. The corners are all unique and you can't set up the car to be perfect in each corner -- you have to be willing to sacrifice handling in one area and be able to compensate for it in another. Turn 3 is where you have to be dialed in to be successful at Pocono. In Turns 1 and 2, you can deal with not being perfect, but not in Turn 3 because it sets you up for everywhere else."
VICKERS: (YOUR CAREER-BEST FINISH CAME LAST YEAR IN JUNE AT POCONO. LOOKING BACK, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY TO TRY AND GET YOUR FIRST WIN?) "Our car was at its best on the shorter runs. Carl (Edwards) had a car that was better on longer runs and the way the race transpired, the longer run at the end was just too much for us. If there had been a caution later, we might have been able to take a shot at Carl. It was still a good race for us to lead the most laps and finish second."
VICKERS: (GIVEN THE KIND OF SUCCESS YOU'VE HAD AT POCONO, DO YOU EXPECT TO RUN WELL WHEN YOU GO THERE?) "There's a certain level of confidence that comes any time you have successes at a particular track, but past history doesn't guarantee you anything. It's a year later and a lot of things have changed, teams are working with new setups to go faster and, no matter what, there's always a new variable introduced. Our sport is constantly changing and you can't rest on what you've done in the past. I'm expecting a strong run from our team this weekend."
