Checker Auto Parts 500 - Kyle Busch Notes

PREVIEW: KYLE BUSCH (NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLET)
VENUE: PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY (1-MILE OVAL)
CIRCUIT: NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES (RACE 35 OF 36)
EVENT: SUNDAY, NOV. 12, 2006 (312 LAPS, 312 MILES)

TWISTED SISTER IS BACK: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 376 -- also known as "Twisted Sister" -- for Sunday's event at Phoenix International Raceway. The car, designed as a twin sister to the machine that won at Phoenix one year ago, led a race-high 248 laps in the September event at Richmond, Va., en route to a second-place finish.

LAPS LED: In three Cup starts at PIR, Kyle Busch already has one win (November 2005) and one pole position (April 2006). He has led all three races for a total of 78 laps around the one-mile oval.

KYLEBUSCH.COM GOES LIVE: Busch recently launched his new Web site, www.KyleBusch.com. The interactive site gives fans an up-close and personal view of the driver and his Hendrick Motorsports teams. Among other features, the site provides statistics, race reports, a journal, photos, sponsor links and behind-the-scenes information about the 21-year-old Las Vegas native.

CURTAIN CALL FOR TRIPLE DUTY: Busch will compete in all three of NASCAR's top touring circuits at PIR this weekend. He has pulled the trifecta at four different tracks this season: Lowe's Motor Speedway, Dover (Del.) International Speedway, Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway. He will run only the NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD: Busch's Texas Motor Speedway weekend proved to be busy but successful as he scored two top-five finishes in three NASCAR races. He was second in the Craftsman Truck Series, fourth in the NEXTEL Cup Series and started from the outside pole in Busch Series competition.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEMBERS OF THE '5': Two members of the No. 5 Kellogg's Chevrolet team will celebrate birthdays in the month of November. Tim Kuhn, backup truck driver and Buffalo, N.Y., native, will celebrate a birthday Nov. 13. Engine tuner Mark Wilkinson, who hails from Memphis, Tenn., will blow out candles Nov. 20.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLET: (ON BEING THE DEFENDING RACE WINNER AT PIR.) "Any time you're able to win at any track in the NEXTEL Cup Series it's always good, but Phoenix is a special place for me. It was actually the first Cup race I ever saw as a fan and, ironically enough, Terry Labonte won that day."

BUSCH: (ON THE TRACK'S CHARACTERISTICS.) "Phoenix is unique. All the corners are different and the dogleg down the backstretch is different than any other track. There aren't too many race tracks like it. Very rarely nowadays do you encounter a place that has two completely different corners. It reminds me a little of Darlington (S.C.) because it's so unique."

BUSCH: (WHY DO YOU RUN SO WELL AT PHOENIX?) "I don't know [LAUGHS]. I wish I knew what makes a driver better on one track and not another, but I don't. We got a pole there this year and have just been successful from the get-go. We hope for the same results we had last time because a win at the end of this year will spur some momentum going into the off-season."

BUSCH: (ON THE CHASE.) "Before Texas, I thought I was going to be the worst of the best by finishing 10th out of 10 [LAUGHS]. But, as we have seen the entire Chase, anything can happen. It would be very cool if the 5 could finish fifth."
