Subway Fresh 500 - Scott Wimmer Notes

Scott Wimmer 2006 Event Preview
Morgan-McClure Motorsports (MMM)
No. 4 Aero Exhaust Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Race 8 of 36 – Subway 500
Phoenix International Raceway

Last week:
Pit strategy and untimely cautions relegated the team to its second consecutive 28th place finish at Texas Motor Speedway, keeping the team 37th in NASCAR Owners Standings.

The team participated in a two-day test session at Richmond International Raceway on Wednesday and Thursday, April 12-13, unofficially posting the sixth fastest lap during the test.

Morgan-McClure Ride Chassis No.: Primary: 86 Back-Up: 84

  • Chassis 86 was last used at Martinsville, where brake and sway bar problems forced a 28th-place finish.
  • Chassis 86 was used during the team’s test at Richmond International Raceway where Wimmer posted the 6th fastest time of all competitors.

    Scott Wimmer Quotes:
“I’m really excited about going out to Phoenix. I used to go out there and watch the cup races when I was a kid. I’ve watched a lot of great races out there. I had the good fortune to win a Busch race there in 2002, and had a couple of good runs in Bill Davis’ cup car. It’s been a real good track for me over the years. A lot of people from Wisconsin go to the race there, probably to escape the cold!

“I’m looking forward to running the Aero Exhaust Chevrolet. I think we have a real good racecar for the event. We’re actually taking one of the cars we tested at Richmond and we should have all the bugs out of it for the race.

    Chris Carrier Quotes:
“The biggest thing to know about Phoenix is to always check for rattlesnakes before picking anything up. Otherwise it’s a very nice racetrack and a great place to watch a race. They have made a lot of improvements at the facility over the past few years and have done a lot of additional work over the winter, so we’re looking forward to going out there.

“From a team standpoint, Phoenix is a hard track to get a hold on. It has two different types of turns, with tight exits on both ends, especially turn four. You need a good setup, as well as good downforce, to be successful. We’re taking our Martinsville car, and we feel it will be a good car. We’ve had some improved runs lately, and we had a good test at Richmond, so I’m excited.”
