WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE LENOX INDUSTRIAL TOOLS 300 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES RACE AT NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY, JULY 16, 2006.
Kyle Busch led five times for 107 laps to win the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race award in the Lenox Industrial Tools 300. Busch took the honor for the first time this season.
Busch led the most laps of any driver in the race, the first time he’s accomplished the feat this season. He has now led at least one lap in 10 of the 19 NEXTEL Cup races this season. Busch has led Kenseth has led 15 times for 195 total laps in 2006.
Busch won the Sunday’s race at New Hampshire, taking the checkered flag .406 seconds over Carl Edwards. The victory was the third for Busch in 61 career starts.
Busch is fourth in the UNOFFICIAL NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series championship standings. He is 23 points behind third-place Jeff Burton.
Greg Biffle continues to lead the season-long WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.
Busch quotes: “It’s pretty cool to win that award because it’s tough to lead as many laps as you can here in these races now. For some guys, they can do it every week but for us we’ve been able to bide our own time throughout the events and just try to get to the end. But we’ve had some fast cars so to be able to win the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award this week was something special for us. It proves that we had a very fast car and pretty much the dominant one.”
