Lenox Industrial Tools 300 - Kyle Busch Notes

PREVIEW: KYLE BUSCH (NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLET)
VENUE: NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY (1.058-MILE OVAL)
CIRCUIT: NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES (RACE 19 OF 36)
EVENT: SUNDAY, JULY 16 (300 LAPS, 317.4 MILES)

GUSTAFSON PICKS PHOENIX WINNER: Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 323 for this weekend's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at New Hampshire. The car had a solid track record in 2005, notching fourth-place finishes at New Hampshire International Speedway in July and Richmond (Va.) International Raceway in May and September. It was also the car Kyle Busch drove to a win at Phoenix International Raceway last November.

CLOSE TO HOME: Two members of the Kellogg's Racing crew will celebrate a homecoming of sorts when the NEXTEL Cup Series rolls into New Hampshire this weekend. Front-tire changer D.J. Richardson is from Leomister, Mass., while jackman Rick Pigeon hails from Fairfax, Vt.

FUEL FOR SCHOOL: Busch and the No. 5 Kellogg's Chevrolet will be featured on a coupon book circulated by Kellogg's in support of the company's "Fuel for School" campaign. The No. 5 Chevy will also carry a special decal on its television panel for this weekend's 300-mile NEXTEL Cup race at New Hampshire.

PREPPING AT THE BRICKYARD: All four full-time Hendrick Motorsports teams -- Nos. 5, 24, 25 and 48 -- tested the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week in preparation for the Aug. 6 NEXTEL Cup event.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLET: (ON NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY.) "I like racing at New Hampshire. My first time there in a Cup car we finished fourth, so it's one of those tracks that just suits my driving style. It's a shorter race than most of the Cup events we run, so we'll have to be paying attention and on our toes to keep it up front. New Hampshire is a hard track to pass on, so you have to be selective when you make your moves and track position will be very important."

BUSCH: (ON THE TIGHT RACE FOR THE FINAL CHASE POSITIONS.) "The biggest challenge is to make sure you stay out of trouble, keep your nose clean and be there at the end of the race. You don't get paid very many points for trying to go after a win and finishing 43rd. The biggest thing is trying to make sure that you don't put yourself in a position that will take you out of the race. You just want to make sure that you have a car capable of doing what you need it to do, and if you struggle around a little bit, you're just going to have to struggle that day and go on to the next week and hopefully have a better one."

BUSCH: (ON PRESSURE.) "Right now, the pressure is to stay focused. We try and take one race at a time and go from there. Sometimes I don't even look at the points or know who I am racing against for points because it can be a distraction. I just take it week by week. I know that we have a little padding in eighth, but we can't afford to lose sight of things."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS: (ON NEW HAMPSHIRE.) "This team is in 'urgent mode,' I guess you can say. We have no margin for error, so we've got to be prepared every single week if we expect to be in the Chase come September. We tested at The Milwaukee Mile because there's a correlation between that track and New Hampshire. The tracks race similarly so we wanted to make sure we were ready. I think we can win at New Hampshire. We're taking a car that has never finished out of the top-10. I didn't take it to the second New Hampshire race last year and it was the wrong decision. There should be no reason for the Kellogg's team to leave New Hampshire without a top-five finish. This car is good."
