EXPRESS NOTES:
Hamlin’s New Hampshire Experience: This will be Hamlin’s first start at New Hampshire in a Nextel Cup car. He has one start in the Busch Series, starting sixth and finishing third in the 2005 New England 200 on July 16, 2005. Hamlin led 67 of 201 laps in that race.

Hamlin Test Indianapolis Motor Speedway: Denny Hamlin and the #11 FedEx team traveled from Chicago to Indy this week in preparation for the Brickyard 400 in August. The team tested in both Monday sessions, posting the 12th-fastest time of the day (51.190 seconds, 175.816 mph). Rain aside, the team planned to take Tuesday off but is scheduled to return to the track on Wednesday, July 12.

Hamlin, Operation FedEx Special Delivery Visit Rush University Medical Center in Chicago: Prior to taking the track at Chicagoland, Hamlin joined the FedEx Operation Special Delivery truck to visit patients at the Chicago hospital. As part of the visit, Hamlin received a custom helmet designed for him by Rush patients which he wore all weekend at Chicagoland. In addition, Hamlin joined the patients for radio-controlled car races, and FedEx presented a check for $25k to the hospital. It was third time this season Hamlin wore a helmet designed by a patient (Richmond, Sonoma, Chicago) and the fourth $25k donation FedEx has made during visits this season.

2006 Points: Hamlin’s 14th-place finish at Chicago, coupled with Jeff Gordon’s win, dropped the #11 team to 12th place in the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup standings heading to New Hampshire. Hamlin currently sits three points behind Greg Biffle in eleventh and 50 points behind Gordon in tenth. With eight races to go before the chase, Hamlin is 482 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.

2006 Rookie Race: Hamlin was the fourth highest finishing rookie at Chicagoland but continues to lead the Raybestos Rookie standings over second-place Clint Bowyer.

New Hampshire Chassis JGR 105/044: The #11 FedEx Team will roll out car JGR 105 this weekend at New Hampshire. In its most recent start, Hamlin drove this car to a then-career Cup best second-place finish at Richmond International Raceway on May 6th, 2006. Prior to that, this car recorded a frustrating 37th place finish at Martinsville in April of this year though Hamlin drove it to an eighth-place finish at Martinsville last fall. Backup chassis JGR 044 has made one start this season, a 34th place finish at Phoenix due to engine trouble.

FedEx Express Car at New Hampshire: Hamlin’s #11 Chevrolet will sport the FedEx Express colors for the seventh time this season this weekend at New Hampshire. Throughout the season, Hamlin and FedEx Racing will feature schemes representing four of the FedEx operating companies; FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight and FedEx Kinko’s.

Hamlin on New Hampshire International Speedway: “This is one that I had circled from the start of the season. It’s a fast track but you have to be able to roll through the corners here because it’s relatively flat and you need to get off the corner fast. It sets up pretty good for me because I really like these kinds of tracks and because I cut my teeth on low banked tracks in late models. I have a pretty good feel for how to get around them, and I know I like to race on them.

I had a good run there in the Busch series last year and have pretty high expectations heading back there. For the #11 FedEx team the key is getting there, unloading, and getting right to work on the car then working to make it better throughout the weekend. Having an adjustable car come race day is is something we have done well all season long and something that will be critical at a place like NHIS.”

Hamlin on His First Half Season in Nextel Cup: “Well we are really happy with the performance of the team and where we are in the standings with half a season behind us. As a team we had goals of trying to win the Raybestos Rookie award and trying to finish the season in the top-15. Even though we have run inside the top ten and are just outside now, we are keeping our goals the same. If we continue to run like we believe we can, things like getting back into the top ten and making the Chase will take care of itself.”
