NOTES:

  • This Week’s Race Car at New Hampshire International Speedway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 141 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. This is the same car Bowyer made his NEXTEL Cup debut with last April at Phoenix. In two starts this season, Bowyer has wheeled Chassis No. 141 to a fifth-place finish at Phoenix and a 10th-place finish at Richmond. Dave Blaney drove the car last May at Richmond, at both races at New Hampshire, last June at Pocono and last October at Martinsville.
  • A Bright Idea … Bowyer’s No. 07 Chevy will sport an orange, white and black Sylvania paint scheme this weekend at NHIS. Headquartered in Danvers, Mass., OSRAM SYLVANIA is the North American lighting operation of OSRAM GmbH. Together they are the second-largest lighting and materials enterprise in the world, serving customers in more than 140 countries. OSRAM SYLVANIA manufactures and markets a wide range of lighting products, including automotive, electronic and magnetic ballasts, precision materials and components for industrial and commercial users, original equipment manufacturers and consumers, sold primarily under the SYLVANIA brand name, but also under the OSRAM brand. OSRAM SYLVANIA also offers lighting systems installation and maintenance services. Bowyer’s standard primary sponsor, Jack Daniel’s, is featured on the car’s lower-rear quarter panel and on the trunk lid this week.
  • RCR at The Magic Mile … RCR has one victory at New Hampshire with Robby Gordon handling the driving chores in November 2001. Additionally, RCR owns seven top-five and 18 top-10 finishes at the flat, one-mile oval. Bowyer’s crew chief Gil Martin guided Gordon to the checkered flag, beating Sterling Marlin to the Winner’s Circle by just over two seconds. Testing, One, Two, Three, Testing … Bowyer and the Jack Daniel’s Racing Team tested at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Monday, July 10 in preparation for next month’s Allstate 400 at The Brickyard. Testing will resume on Wednesday, July 12 after rain soaked the Indianapolis area on Tuesday. The test is the fifth of six allowed under NASCAR’s 2006 testing policy. The remaining test available to teams in NASCAR’s top division will be conducted at Homestead-Miami Speedway October 16-18.
  • Two Million Dollar Man … Following his ninth-place finish last weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, Bowyer eclipsed the $2 million mark in season earnings.
  • Media Opps … Bowyer, along with his fellow Raybestos Rookie of the Year contenders, will participate in a question and answer session with the gathered media Friday, July 14 at 9 a.m. in the NHIS media center. Members of the media who are not able to attend this session can chat with Bowyer the following afternoon outside the No. 2 ACDelco Busch Series transporter at 1:15 p.m.
  • Sellers Makes his Debut … RCR development driver Peyton Sellers will make his NASCAR Busch Series debut this weekend at Loudon driving Marsh Racing’s No. 31 Whelen Chevrolet. RCR provides engines and technical support to the Old Lyme, Conn., based team. On July 1, Sellers earned his first career NASCAR Grand National Division, AutoZone West Series victory at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore. The Danville, Va., driver won the pole and led 125 of 150 laps. Sellers currently leads the division’s championship standings by 15 points over Mike David.

    CLINT BOWYER QUOTES:
How happy are you with your flat track program?
“We’re really happy. We’ve run good at every flat track we’ve been to this year. At Phoenix, we led some laps and ran fifth. We were good at Richmond and finished in the top 10 with the same car we’re taking to Loudon. I’m very comfortable with our flat track program.”

Describe some of the characteristics of New Hampshire.
“New Hampshire has long straightaways, so the car has to roll freely off the gas into the turns so it doesn’t get tight in the center of the corner. That’s the main thing at these flat tracks. You have to be able to roll through the center of the corner and get right back in the throttle on exit.”

How difficult is it to pass at New Hampshire? What do you have to do to get by another car?
“Again, it’s all about rolling through the center of the corner. If you have a car that can do that, it’s fairly easy to pass at New Hampshire. If your car is tight in the center, you’re going to have trouble. You have to be able to get it to cut in the center of the corner to get underneath another car off the corner. You have to have a car that is capable of turning in the center of the corner so you can have a little more pull on the wheel to get underneath a guy who is tight up off.”
