GFS Marketplace 400 - Sterling Marlin Notes

Marlin Looking for New Results Second Time Around

BROOKLYN, Mich. (Aug. 16, 2006)— Sterling Marlin is looking for different results as he begins making second trips to NASCAR tracks on the NEXTEL Cup circuit.

Aside from the event at Kansas Speedway in October, each track remaining on the 2006 schedule will mark the second visit there by NASCAR teams. And as Marlin approaches each one, his goal is to improve the team’s performance.

“Going back to these tracks for a second time is exciting,” said Marlin. “It’s our chance to redeem ourselves from the disappointing results we had and to work. We have information and data from our first visits that should help us run better this time around so I’m looking forward to getting to these places and seeing what we can do."

Next up on the schedule is Michigan International Speedway where Marlin’s Ginn Clubs & Resorts team recorded a 26th-place start and a 24th- place finish in June’s rain-shortened event.

“We never found the right balance when we were at Michigan earlier in the year,” explained Marlin. “The race was called for rain just after halfway, so we weren’t even able to keep tuning on it to see if we could make it better. It wasn’t the kind of finish we wanted for sure. That’s why we’re eager to try again.”

Of Marlin’s 42 starts at the two-mile oval 12 top-10 finishes have been recorded, including a victory in 2001.

“I’ve had some success at Michigan in the past and I know this team’s capable of it,” offered Marlin. “We just need to get there this weekend, use our past information to improve our performance and get a great result this time around.”

Marlin continued, "If we could take the No. 14 Ginn Clubs & Resorts Chevrolet to a top-10 or better finish this weekend, it would get us started off on the right foot-- the second time around."
