Texaco/Havoline Team Facts:
NEXTEL Cup
Standings: Casey Mears and the Texaco/Havoline team slipped four spots in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings following their 35th-place finish at Watkins Glen International. The team started 17th and ran as high as fifth before an untimely caution and a late-race spin caused the Texaco/Havoline Dodge to fall one-lap down to the leaders. Mears sits just 29 points back from 15th.
Michigan: Mears will be making his eighth NEXTEL Cup start at Michigan International Speedway this weekend. He finished seventh at MIS in June, his best finish at the 2-mile track, after taking the green flag in the 37th position. The team struggled finding a good balance in the No. 42 Dodge Charger, but made major adjustments Sunday morning before the green flag waved. The changes, a solid performance from the pit crew, patient driving and great pit calls by crew chief Donnie Wingo worked in the team’s favor and earned Mears his first top-10 finish at MIS.
Chassis: Crew chief Donnie Wingo and the Texaco/Havoline team are bringing chassis #403 for the GFS Marketplace 400. This chassis recently ran at Indianapolis, but also made an appearance at Darlington Raceway in May.
