3M Performance 400 - Kyle Busch Notes

BRIAN VICKERS NOTES & QUOTES
NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES

KYLE BUSCH NOTES & QUOTES NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES 'CEREAL CITY' CLOSE TO MIS: Battle Creek, Mich., otherwise known as "Cereal City USA," is home to Kellogg Company's corporate headquarters and lies roughly 70 miles east of Michigan International Speedway. Kellogg's is the primary sponsor of Kyle Busch's No. 5 Chevrolets.

NEW CAR FOR '5': The No. 5 Kellogg's team has selected a brand new car -- Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 388 -- as its primary option this weekend at Michigan International Speedway.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS: (ON FATHER'S DAY.) "My Dad has been there every step of the way on anything I've tried to do. When I liked to play baseball, he used to set up the mound in the backyard and pitch to me and play. When I started racing, he gave me as much information on how to drive, how to ride and what to feel in the car. He brought me through the ranks from legends and late models and spent a lot of money he didn't have to get me what I needed. Without my dad, I wouldn't be where I am today."

BUSCH: (ON HIS PAST PERFORMANCE AT MICHIGAN.) "A year ago at this race we finished ninth. In the August race, Alan (Gustafson) and the team brought an incredible race car. It was the car that eventually ended up winning at California a few weeks later. A hotdog wrapper got on my grill and just fried the engine. We tried to get it off by dropping back to second place and bumping up against another car, but it didn't work. The water temperature just soared and we didn't want to damage the engine because Hendrick Motorsports engines are the best in the business, but it was too late at that point. We led 48 laps and then it just gave up and our day was done. I wasn't the only one who had a run-in with a hotdog wrapper. It's amazing how much that little wrapper cost us. Hopefully the fans will enjoy their hotdogs and take the time to throw away the wrappers so we don't get any on our car this year [LAUGHS]."

BUSCH: (ON THE MICHIGAN TRACK.) "It's a neat track. It's very wide, it's very broad and it's very fast. It's close to manufacturer country and bragging rights go to Chevrolet if they can get a win. It's great to race in front of the folks who actually work at the plants and the build vehicles we drive."

BUSCH: (ON FINDING HIS GROOVE.) "You just try to go out there in practice and fish around all over the track and see where your car works best. You give the team information from there and they make the changes to the car as to where it's fastest. Sometimes grooves move up and down on tracks, but at Michigan there are usually a few to choose from."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS: (ON MICHIGAN.) "We've elected to take a brand new car this weekend. We think we have the track figured out, so it should be pretty fast out of the box. It was heartbreaking last year when that hotdog wrapper got on the grill, but it goes to show how sensitive our cars are and how they have to be just right in order to be fast. Our team works well together and if we don't have things right on Friday you can rest assured they will be right by the time the race is winding down. Including this weekend, there are 12 races left until the Chase starts. We are teetering in 10th right now and there are a lot of teams behind us chomping at the bit to get in. We'll need to be solid over the next 12 so we can be there when it counts. Our focus is on making that Chase right now."
