UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 - Sterling Marlin Notes

Marlin Well Prepped For Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (March 8, 2006)— A couple of successful test sessions, a new sponsor and a past win give Sterling Marlin added confidence for this weekend's NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Marlin, who will be driving the No. 14 Wiley X Eyewear (pronounced Y-lee) Chevrolet for MB2 Motorsports in Las Vegas, completed a successful test session Tuesday (March 7) at Kentucky Speedway. The No. 14 team was also pleased with the test results conducted at Las Vegas in January.

“I’m excited about taking the Wiley X Chevrolet to Las Vegas,” said Marlin, who won the Cup Series event there in 2002. “Returning to a track where I've won before is a good feeling and I'm confident we can get the result we want. This is a good team and I know winning races is in our future. The start to the season hasn’t affected our drive to win. If anything, it’s made us more eager for success. "

Marlin has experienced a spell of bad luck since the beginning of the NEXTEL Cup season. His MB2 Motorsports debut was soured when a late-race accident in the Daytona 500 took him out of contention for the win. The following week he spent his day at California Speedway fighting a tight-handling race car.

Now, behind the wheel of his sporty red and black Wiley X Chevy, Marlin is excited about the opportunity for success.

"This is the first time Wiley X Eyewear has been a primary sponsor with a NASCAR team," said Marlin. "I'm thrilled they're on board with us this weekend and I look forward to getting them a strong finish in their NASCAR debut."

"We haven’t had the start we wanted as far as results go this year, but this is a new team and we have a learning curve to face." added Marlin. "Being presented with some of these challenges early in the season is good. Now's the time to work out the kinks and get things going in the right direction.”

Sunday's event will be broadcast live on FOX, beginning at 4 p.m. ET, 1 p.m. PT.
