The NASCAR Nextel Cup Open results were not reflective of the 8th place starting position for Scott Wimmer in the Aero Exhaust Chevy. A flat right front tire sent Wimmer crashing into the wall on lap 20 of the 30 lap All Star qualifying event.

“I’m excited to get back down there [Lowe’s]. We had a good two day test there and learned a lot about our cars and especially the new tire. We took a lot of stuff to the All Star [Open] race that we are working on for the 600. I felt real comfortable with the car. It was a real good qualifying car and a car that would have raced real well too.
It’s a good place to go, it’s near all the teams’ headquarters and kind of the heart of racing there in Charlotte. I’m excited to see all the fans out there. It’s the longest race of the year, 400 laps, and it’s going to be a big test of equipment and engines. It should be an exciting race, it always is, with the new pavement and tires along with the fuel cell changes.
It’s good to be around home for a change and not have to travel far. We have lots of friends and family that come down for this race so we are looking forward to it. We have a brand new car that is capable of running real well.”
