WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE DODGE/SAVE MART 350 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES RACE AT INFINEON RACEWAY, JUNE 25, 2006.
Jeff Gordon led twice for 44 laps to win the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race award in the Dodge/Save Mart 350. Gordon took the honors for the third time this season and for the second consecutive race.
Gordon led the most laps of any driver in the race, the third time he’s accomplished the feat this season. He has now led at least one lap in 10 of the 16 NEXTEL Cup races this season. Gordon has now led 29 times for 268 total laps in 2006.
Gordon won the Dodge/Save Mart 350, his first win in 2006. He won for the fifth time in 14 races at Infineon Raceway. Gordon scored his seventh top-10 finish in 16 races this season and is eighth in the NEXTEL Cup Series championship standings.
Greg Biffle continues to lead the season-long WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.
Gordon quotes: “I knew this team was something special. We just haven’t had a chance to really show it. They gave me such an awesome racecar this weekend that I had to get them this win. If we didn’t win with this car, we can’t ever win. What a great day, you know. Just kept working on it. We weren’t the best all day but we got that track position. It was great. It was awesome. Man, I didn’t know if we were ever going to win another one of these races. I’m speechless. What an amazing moment this is, a very special weekend for me and this race team to get back to victory lane.”
