Dodge/Save Mart 350 - Sterling Marlin Notes

EVEN MARLIN COULD CHANGE OPINION ABOUT ROAD COURSES

SONOMA, Calif. (June 21, 2006)— Sterling Marlin doesn’t hide his dislike for road course races. When asked what track he enjoys most, he’ll likely respond, “Any of them - except the road courses.”

Even so, Marlin doesn’t have a bad road course record. His history at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, the 1.99-mile course he will compete at in Sunday’s Dodge/ Save Mart 350, includes a runner-up result in 2000 and four top 10-finishes.

“It’s not that I don’t like racing at road courses, I just like the ovals better,” offered Marlin. “But I like a challenge so that’s the exciting part about heading out West. I’ve pulled off some good finishes at Infineon and Watkins Glen in the past and I think I can do it again this weekend in my Waste Management Chevrolet.”

This weekend’s Nextel Cup event marks the first of two road course races on the circuit this season. The other is at Watkins Glen International, which takes place in August.

“You face a whole new set of challenges when you go to road courses,” said Marlin. “You’re turning left and right and shifting—it takes a lot of hard work by the crew and the driver. Everything has to be at its best. If we all work together and stay focused, I think we can do well.”

Marlin says a good result in Sunday’s event would go a long way toward his opinion about these types of tracks.

“Maybe this weekend’s race will change my mind about road courses,” said Marlin. “You never know -- if our Waste Management team can get a strong enough finish, they may become my favorite.”
