Dodge/Save Mart 350 - Kyle Busch Notes

KYLE BUSCH NOTES & QUOTES
NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES

BUSCH READY FOR INFINEON: In his most recent road race, Kyle Busch qualified ninth and challenged for the win before finishing seventh in the March 5 NASCAR Busch Series event at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. Last season, he started 13th and posted a 40th-place result at Infineon Raceway, then qualified 20th and came in 33rd at Watkins Glen as a NEXTEL Cup rookie.

'5' TAKING CHASSIS 281: Alan Gustafson, crew chief of the No. 5 Kellogg's Chevrolets, has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 281 as the primary option for Sunday's NEXTEL Cup event at Infineon Raceway. It is the same car the team used at Infineon Raceway last June.

HENDRICK ROAD READY: Team owner Rick Hendrick has four NEXTEL Cup victories at Infineon Raceway, putting him first on the track's all-time win list. Each of those performances has come with the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet team of driver Jeff Gordon.

PREPPING AT MILWAUKEE: All four full-time Hendrick Motorsports teams -- Nos. 5, 24, 25 and 48 -- will test The Milwaukee Mile on June 27-28 in preparation for the July 16 NEXTEL Cup event at New Hampshire International Speedway.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS: (ON HIS MEXICO CITY EXPERIENCE.) "I feel like I learned quite a bit in Mexico City from Adrian Fernandez and I'm looking forward now to Sonoma and trying to learn a little bit more from practice. I definitely need more track time on a road course, but I'll tell you what, Adrian has really helped me out. I felt like a real road racer in Mexico City."

BUSCH: (WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INFINEON AND WATKINS GLEN?) "Infineon has a lot of switchbacks and elevation changes. Watkins Glen is more of a high-speed kind of superspeedway road course with not a whole lot of switchbacks. There's a lot of speed to it and not a whole lot of tight corners to slow you down. There's a lot of braking at both of them, but that's just like any other road course."

BUSCH: (WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE ON ROAD COURSES?) "For me, it's probably not over-charging the corners. Getting into the corners for me is the hardest thing. You don't know if you can step on the brakes or how far you can actually drive into the corners so that it's not too hot. There's a different way to attack a road course, and it's a totally different mindset for a driver to turn both right and left. Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon and my teammate Jeff Gordon have definitely aced the road courses and a guy like me stands to learn a lot from them. If we can come out of Infineon with a top-10 finish I will feel really good about it."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS: (ON ROAD COURSES AND POINTS.) "Our teammate Jeff Gordon has had tremendous success in the past at road courses. I think we will be chasing Jeff, Tony Stewart and the rest of the road course aces. This isn't a race I expect to go out and win, but I think we are capable of a top-10 finish. We've fallen in the points over the past few weeks, and haven't been this deep in the standings since the third race of the season. We have 12 races to go before Richmond, so we need to have decent runs and good points days for the rest of the race to the Chase. We've been making mistakes and we can't make them anymore."

GUSTAFSON: (ON MAKING THE TOP 10 IN POINTS.) "It seems like Greg Biffle and Denny Hamlin are just creeping into the top-10. It's crazy because those guys had some bad luck starting out the year. Jeff Burton has been consistent all season and deserves to be where he is. It's going to be a heated battle for those last few spots in the Chase. It'll go down to the wire. With Infineon and Daytona being the next two races, they're both unpredictable, so we'll have to be good and have luck on our side over the next two weeks."
