SCOTT WIMMER QUOTES:
What are your goals and expectations this weekend?
“Our first goal is to just make the race. I feel real comfortable in doing that from the tests we’ve done already this year. Our main goal is to help out our teammates any way we can. Kevin Harvick still has a shot at the championship and Jeff Burton has a shot at finishing in the top five. I’ve had some good runs at Homestead and I’m confident we can finish in the top 15. I think that would be a real good day for us.”
Early in, how is your relationship with crew chief Pat Smith, whom you will work with next year on the Holiday Inn Busch program?
“When we tested at Miami, we started off by just running some laps so Pat could get used to what my driving style is. We then made some long runs and some qualifying runs which we were real happy with. It was real relaxing for me. I told them what wasn’t working right and they fixed it. Pat’s been an awesome crew chief for Jeff Burton this year so, hopefully, we can go back and build on what they’ve already established because they have a pretty impressive resume already.”
Do you see running the Holiday Inn Cup car this week as a head start to the Holiday Inn Busch program for 2007?
“Getting to work with Pat and the guys on the Holiday Inn team is going to give us a jumpstart to next year. Being able to test with them a couple of weeks ago at Homestead, learning all the new names and coming up with the best way to communicate on how the car drives was a huge help. I’m really looking forward to the off-season. I think we’re going to do quite a bit of testing. Just getting to know the guys on the team is a big help. The quicker you can build the relationships now is really the key to running good.”
