J.J. YELEY, No. 18 IMITREX CHEVROLET: “I got a little gun-shy, I guess [smiles]. I got into the wall in the Busch car and tore it up a little bit. The car was real good, just a little tentative getting off of turn 2 on the first lap. I was pretty good through turns 3 and 4 and the second lap I just overdrove 1 a little bit too hard, got up the racetrack and figured it would be hard to go faster without having to push it too much. I know that’s going to be a decent time. It will probably put us top-15. I know we have a very good racecar for Sunday.” IS IT DIFFICULT BOUNCING BACK FROM THE NEXTEL CUP CAR TO THE BUSCH CAR HERE? “It is a little bit. I actually think the Cup cars are a little easier to drive. You have more horsepower, which makes them more difficult, obviously, but they have so many different things handling-wise that help those racecars. Compared to the Busch cars they slide around a little bit more sometimes but all in all, it’s a lot of fun in either one.”
DENNY HAMLIN, FED EX KINKO’S CHEVROLET: “That’s a pretty good run for us. Any time you can pick up we’re pretty happy with that. That’s a pretty good run for us. We definitely weren’t going to run a .20 like those guys ran but all in all, it’s a great run. We’ve got a great racecar for Sunday.” DID THE WEATHER THROW YOU A CURVE BALL? “Not really. It drove pretty much the same. We freed it up a little bit and it did exactly that. It did all the things that we expected it would do and basically we got what we got. We knew we weren’t going to have a shot for the pole but hopefully a top-10 start.” YOU HAVE BEEN ON THE TRACK ALL DAY IN THE CUP CAR AND BUSCH CAR. HAS THE TRACK CHANGED? “It’s changing. It’s going through a transition right now but we feel like we’ve got a good hold on it and we’re ready to do some race practice tomorrow.” WHAT DOES THE CAR HAVE TO DO IN A RACE HERE VERSUS QUALIFYING? “You’ve just got to make sure that you’re not tight. When you’re tight here it just really makes you lose a lot of spots.” YOU HAVE POSTED THREE STRAIGHT TOP-10 FINISHES. YOU MUST BE PLEASED WITH THIS RACE TEAM. “We’re coming off a really good couple of weeks.
Hopefully we can just keep that momentum going. If we can get us another top-10 start that would be great. I’m really happy with my race team right now. We’re on a roll knocking down those top-10s like I feel like we should be doing every week and we’re slowly knocking on the door of that Chase. We’re going to get there sooner or later.”
DAVID STREMME, No. 40 LONESTAR STEAKHOUSE DODGE: “We were just real loose. We didn’t do nothing from when we went from practice to qualifying. The track just loosened up that much. We just didn’t stay on top of it. We’re going to run some Happy Hour stuff and I’m sure we’ll be fine. I’m disappointed. I thought we’d have been better.” IS THE TRACK GETTING SLICKER AND SLICKER? “We just didn’t stay on top of it. A lot of other teams did. That’s about it.”
REED SORENSON, No. 41 TARGET DODGE: “A .90 is not good. We needed to run a .50 and just didn’t do it. It hit the ground really hard. We changed everything after practice because had some stuff mess up on the car and we kind of went blind into qualifying there. It wasn’t horrible, just hit the ground really, really hard and shot it up the track. We’re just talking about race trim stuff now. There’s nothing you can do about qualifying stuff and just try to figure out how to get it good for the race.” DOES TIME IN THE BUSCH CAR HELP YOU HERE? “We’ve been pretty bad on both sides. I don’t think hurts the other or helps the other. We think the tire is a little bit different than it was last year because our Busch car was really good here last year. We’re just trying to figure out what we can do on that side to get that car better with the tire. The Cup car, we’ve been kind of all over the place. We had some problems in that first practice there. We’re trying to get back to normal stuff here and start over.”
MARTIN TRUEX JR., BASS PRO SHOPS/TRACKER BOATS CHEVROLET: “We ran in the 40s in practice and we were like sixth-fastest. I was loose in practice and Bono and the guys tightened the car up for me and I was really excited about having a shot at the top-five or the pole. The car was that good. That rain messed us up or something because I got real loose. I was just way too loose. I ran right there with Biffle and Kasey Kahne ran after the rain so I don’t know if it maybe it was the track a little bit
or what but it was way too loose.” WAS THE RAIN DELAY TOUGH MENTALLY? “No, not really. You wait and when it’s time to go, you go just like we do every week. It wasn’t bad. I was frustrated when it rained. I thought I had a good car and then I thought about the rain and I was like ‘Now what’s this going to do?’ That was kind of a pain. I’m really excited to be here at Dover. This is a good place for us to turn our year around. The car has been really good throughout practice. This is my favorite so I’m looking forward to it.” WAS THE TRACK DIFFERENT AFTER THE RAIN? “Yeah, because we were a little loose in practice and we tightened the car up and it was way, way, way loose there. I was fortunate to hang on. We’re still starting two spots better than we would have if it had kept raining so it’s all good.”
