KYLE BUSCH NOTES & QUOTES
MAKE IT A TRIPLE: Kyle Busch will pull triple duty at Dover this weekend by entering all three NASCAR events -- in the NEXTEL Cup Series, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series -- at the one-mile oval.
BUSCH AT DOVER: At Dover, Busch has posted one top-five finish in Busch Series competition and two second-place NEXTEL Cup results. He also earned a victory in his lone Craftsman Truck Series start there.
HENDRICK GOING FOR 11TH AT DOVER: Car owner Rick Hendrick has recorded 10 NEXTEL Cup Series victories at Dover International Speedway, putting him first on the track's all-time win list. The Wood Brothers are second with seven first-place finishes at the one-mile oval.
KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS: (ON RACING AT DOVER.) "For some reason, Dover is a good race track for me. It was a much-needed boost to the Kellogg's team last year to race our teammate Jimmie Johnson that first race. We're looking forward to finishing what we started last year and hopefully going to Victory Lane."
BUSCH: (ON DOVER'S CONCRETE SURFACE.) "Dover is one of those tracks that is really finicky. If you want to run on the bottom you have to have a good-handling car, and if you venture to the top of the track you have to have a good-handling car. I haven't fared too well on the top of the track, so I like to run the bottom groove and make that work for us. I actually learned to race the bottom in the Craftsman Truck Series race last year, so then we made the changes to both my Busch Series and Cup cars to make them run better on the bottom. The concrete on the track is really bumpy and it seems like they get worse every year. The setups are tricky because if you make a change to your car, you change some of the other characteristics of it, so you have to be careful not to over adjust.
"It's a little bit of a roller coaster ride there because you come up off the frontstretch and dive down to the bottom through the corners if you're running the bottom. The track is banked so high that you're actually driving downhill to get to the bottom of the track. It's also a self-cleaning race track, meaning that if you hit the wall you will usually come back across the track to the bottom and slide down the bank. We hope to avoid another wreck because at this point we've wrecked two weekends in a row."
ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS: (ON RACING AT DOVER.) "It's that time of year when we're moving full steam ahead and there is only one more off-week between now and the Chase. We've wrecked two cars in the past two weeks and have some work to do, but the pit crew gets better and better every weekend and we haven't let up on our goals. We ran great last year at Dover and I honestly expect the same type of performance heading back there. Our setup is going to be similar to last year so the results should be just as good. With Kyle running all three events, we should have a good gauge of the track and the changes it will go through throughout the race. His information and feedback will be very helpful."
