NO. 66 ONECARE / BEST BUY
HAAS CNC RACING CHEVROLET
DOVER PREVIEW
SPECIAL SPONSOR: Microsoft’s Windows Live OneCare team has joined Best Buy Racing in sponsoring the No. 66 Haas CNC Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and driver Jeff Green this weekend.
The No. 66 Windows Live OneCare Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS will compete in the Neighborhood Excellence 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Sunday, June 4.
Best Buy, who is the primary sponsor of the No. 66 Haas CNC Racing Chevrolet in a number of events this season, is a featured retailer of Microsoft’s Windows Live OneCare service, a computer care service available to consumers on Thursday, June 1. As an added convenience for customers, Geek Squad® Agents will be available 24/7 to install Windows Live OneCare in-home or at Geek Squad Precincts in Best Buy Stores.
The car, which was unveiled at a press announcement last Sunday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, features a blue oval with the number “1” on the hood, representing the OneCare brand. In addition, there is a Windows Live OneCare logo on the rear quarter panels, and a smaller Best Buy logo just behind the rear tire.
This marks the first time in Microsoft’s history that the company has been the primary sponsor of a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series car.
Q&A WITH DRIVER JEFF GREEN:
YOU’RE REPRESENTING TWO HUGE COMPANIES THIS WEEKEND IN MICROSOFT AND BEST BUY. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT? “It’s pretty amazing. It’s been great to represent Best Buy, and now to have a company as respected as Microsoft partner with us is pretty amazing.
“When I started learning about OneCare, I realized I’m the right person to drive this car because this product is perfect for computer users like me. I’m comfortable using my computer, but if something goes wrong, I don’t have a clue on how to fix the problem.
“The way it’s been explained to me, OneCare is like a pit crew for your PC. It not only prevents problems, but also offers solutions when problems pop up. It sounds like a cool product, and I’m proud to represent the brand.”
DOVER IS KNOWN AS A TRICKY TRACK FOR DRIVERS. IS IT A TRACK YOU ENJOY? “I think the drivers all like it. I liked it better when they had asphalt down instead of the concrete, but it’s still a fun track. The positive about it is the track is consistent. It doesn’t change a lot because of weather. It does have a tendency to get a lot of rubber on it from the tires, but otherwise, it’s pretty good.
“You can kind of come here with a similar setup to what you have in Charlotte (at Lowe’s Motor Speedway), and we ran well there, so hopefully that will translate into a good run here, too. Even though it’s shorter than Lowe’s (Motor Speedway), it’s got higher banking, and that kind of evens things out. Rockingham (North Carolina Motor Speedway) is another track you could go to where you could use a similar setup to Charlotte.”
YOU LED SOME LAPS AND RAN IN THE TOP-FIVE AND TOP-10 FOR A GOOD PORTION OF THE NIGHT AT LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY. HOW MUCH OF A CONFIDENCE BOOSTER IS THAT FOR YOU? “It felt great. I was a little disappointed, finishing 12th after running so well. We got penalized for not having our equipment close enough to the pit road wall before I left the pit stall. That just killed us. I think it was a pretty bad call, but what are you going to do? At the end, there were too many green flag runs for our liking, and track position was critical. Still, we were back as far as 36th position, so to finish 12th is not too bad. We’re hoping to build on that this weekend in Dover.”
Q&A WITH CREW CHIEF “BOOTIE” BARKER:
WHAT ARE THE KEYS TO BEING SUCCESSFUL AT DOVER INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY?
“Well, you can run a similar setup to what you have at Lowe’s (Motor Speedway), so we feel like we’ll be good here, since we did have a really fast car there last weekend. The main differences between the two tracks are that Dover has expansion joints in the concrete, so it’s rougher. When the tire rubber starts to build up, you can get a ‘washboard effect’ happening. It gets bumpy, like a washboard, and it can really cause you to start chattering your front tires.
“You have to really strike a balance. You have to run as much ‘aero’ as you can, without giving up on the mechanical end. You really have to have your shock package working, too. You need to soften it up enough to compensate for the bumps, but you can’t soften it up too much. It’s a definite balancing act.”
JEFF GREEN’S HISTORY AT DOVER SPEEDWAY: In 11 NEXTEL Cup Series starts at Dover International Speedway, Jeff Green’s best qualifying effort and best finish came in the same event. Green qualified 12th and finished 13th in the Sept. 22, 2002, Dover Cup event, while driving for Richard Childress Racing.
HAAS CNC RACING’S HISTORY AT DOVER SPEEDWAY: In six NEXTEL Cup Series starts at Dover International Speedway, Haas CNC Racing’s best starting spot came with driver Ward Burton, who qualified 17th for the Sept. 26, 2004, event. Mike Bliss scored the team’s best Dover Cup Series result when he finished 18th in this race one year ago.
MYTHBUSTER: Robert “Bootie” Barker, crew chief of the No. 66 Microsoft Windows Live OneCare / Best Buy Chevrolet, is authoring a new column for www.NASCAR.com. Each week, Barker addresses Urban Legends in the sport of NASCAR. In his first two columns, Barker addressed topics ranging from the jacks used during pit stops (they’re much lighter and more expensive than jacks for home garage use), some myths taken from the movie Days of Thunder (crew members don’t ride in the back of the transporter, but they have been known to eat ice cream during races), and all pit crew members fly in on race day (five of the seven pit crew members on the No. 66 team work on the car and are at the track all weekend).
Barker’s column appears every Friday at www.NASCAR.com.
GET TO KNOW THE NO. 66 CREW: Best Buy Racing’s website is highlighting the crew members of the No. 66 Haas CNC Racing team. Each week, a different crew member is featured with an expanded bio that lets fans learn (among other things) how that crewman got into racing, the role he serves on the Haas CNC team, along with his favorite movies and music. Read the latest bios by logging on to either www.racing.bestbuy.com or http://racing.bestbuy.com.
BEST BUY LOCATIONS: Using the “Store Locator” feature at www.BestBuy.com shows there is a Best Buy location (Store No. 842) located less than a half-mile from Dover International Speedway.
