Neighborhood Excellence 400 - Brian Vickers Notes

BRIAN VICKERS NOTES & QUOTES

'25' SEEKING DOVER SPARK: Last June's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at Dover (Del.) International Speedway sparked a string of strong finishes for Brian Vickers and the No. 25 GMAC Racing team. The team finished sixth at Dover, which marked the first of six top-10 finishes and eight top-15s in 13 events.

VICKERS STRONG ON ONE-MILE TRACKS: In the six NEXTEL Cup events run at one-mile ovals -- consisting of Dover International Speedway, New Hampshire International Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway -- in 2005, Vickers collected one pole position, two top-10 finishes, five top-15s and earned an average finish of 12.5.

HOMECOMING FOR MOORE: GMAC Racing crew member Mike Moore returns home this weekend. A Dover native, Moore is in his second season with the No. 25 Chevrolets and works as the team's car chief. He is also Vickers' jackman on race day.

HENDRICK GOING FOR 11TH AT DOVER: Car owner Rick Hendrick has recorded 10 NEXTEL Cup Series victories at Dover International Speedway, putting him first on the track's all-time win list. The Wood Brothers are second with seven first-place finishes at the one-mile oval.

CHASSIS 357 FOR '25': This Sunday at Dover, crew chief Lance McGrew will call upon Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 357 for the second time this season. The car most recently saw action at another concrete facility, Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, where it finished 37th.

BRIAN VICKERS, DRIVER OF THE NO. 25 GMAC CHEVROLETS: (HOW MUCH HAS THE CAR OF TOMORROW CHANGED SINCE YOU FIRST DROVE IT?) "The car has changed a ton since I first drove it at Atlanta Motor Speedway last season and all of it came from one small thing -- the addition of the rear wing as opposed to the spoiler. I think it's a good decision. The rear wing accomplishes a couple of different things. Most importantly, from a competition standpoint, the wing allows more air to get to the second car in line, which will make the racing better, but it still gives the front car optimal downforce. The rear wing also provides a lot of good 'sideforce,' so guys can race looser and not have to worry as much about crashing."

VICKERS: (THE PAST THREE RACES HAVE BEEN TOUGH ON THE TEAM. IS DOVER A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN GET BACK ON TRACK?) "It has been a tough few races, but as difficult as it can be at times to move on, that's what we have to do. We just have to focus on the next race and try to gain back the positions we've lost, one race at a time. Dover is a track where the GMAC Racing team ran well both races last year and a place where I had success earlier in my career."
