WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE DAYTONA 500 NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES RACE AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2006.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. led seven times for 32 to win the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race Award in the Daytona 500. He was credited with an eighth-place finish in the event.

Earnhardt Jr. unofficially ranks sixth in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series championship standings, 35 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.

Earnhardt Jr. also collected a $10,000 bonus for leading at the halfway point of the event.

This was his 71st top-10 finish in 171 career superspeedway starts.

Earnhardt Jr. led the most laps in just one race in 2005: the fall event at Atlanta, where he claimed a fourth-place finish after leading 142 of 325 laps.
