RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE ADVANCE MATERIAL FOR THE GATORADE DUEL AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2006.
REED SORENSON, No. 41 TARGET DODGE: HOW WAS THE CAR IN PRACTICE? “Pretty good. We got it better. We made some changes on it after the first practice and it was a lot better the second practice.” DID THE CAR DRIVE DRAMATICALLY DIFFERENT IN RACE TRIM VERSUS QUALIFYING? “Oh yeah. It’s a lot more fun bouncing around out there, for sure.” DID YOU SEE ANY BUMP DRAFTING? “I didn’t bump anybody and I never got bumped. I’m sure that doesn’t mean anything once the race starts. I’m sure they’ll be some bump drafting but it seemed like everybody was taking it easy out there and pushing each other.” DO YOU THINK THE QUALIFYING RACES WILL BE CALM? “Not if it follows after the Bud Shootout. If it goes like that, it’s going to be crazy. Everybody is hearing around the garage that they are going to do some things about the bump drafting. If they change that a little bit then I’m sure everybody will be more careful.”
CLINT BOWYER, No. 07 JACK DANIEL’S CHEVROLET: “It was okay, it was fun. I’m just trying to learn. It was pretty tight out there. The car is pretty tight so we’re just trying to fix a little handling issue. Other than that, we’re pretty good.” HOW DO YOU APPROACH THE RACE WITH THE THREAT OF A PENALTY FOR BUMP DRAFTING? “I heard them talking about it, but we’ve been bouncing back and forth so much between the Busch car and here, I really haven’t heard what they’re going to do. It’s the same for everybody [smiles].” WILL YOU TRY TO RACE AS CLEAN AS YOU CAN? “Yeah, but then again, you can’t be too cautious because these guys are going to beat you up. They are going to shuffle you out and do whatever they can do when they see that yellow stripe on the back of your car. You’ve got to be cautious but then again you can’t take too much off of them, either.” DID YOU HAVE TROUBLE GETTING DRAFTING HELP? “Not really. We’ve got a pretty fast car so for the most part, they’re willing to help a little bit.”
MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 1 BASS PRO SHOPS/TRACKER CHEVROLET: HOW IS THE CAR? “It’s pretty good. The first practice we struggled a little bit. We hit on some stuff in the second one and got it driving good. It drafts good, it’s fast so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.” WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON RACING WITH THE THREAT OF PENALTY FOR BUMP DRAFTING? “I don’t know where’s the no bump drafting zone? In the corners, I imagine. I’ve tried not to do that in the past so I shouldn’t have a big problem with it. I’ll be pretty patient until the end of the race.” IS IT A MATTER WHERE THE DRIVERS DON’T DO SOMETHING STUPID? “You’ve got to be patient. Sometimes this racing, it gets frustrating. You get in a line, stuck in a line somewhere and you can’t go nowhere and you just want to start pushing everybody and knocking them out of the way and stuff. You’ve got to stay calm and stay patient.” ARE YOU MORE CONFIDENT NOW THAT YOU’VE HAD TWO PRACTICES IN THE DRAFT? “Yeah, because you come here and it’s really a handling track and if the car’s not driving good then you can’t get up in there. You can’t get in the middle of the pack and be comfortable. You get in there and it starts driving good you risk running into people and causing crashes and stuff. That’s no fun so we’re just trying to get our car driving good.” DO YOU THINK WE WILL SEE CLEAN RACES ON THURSDAY? “There’s no telling. It’s hard to say. Practice for me has been pretty standard so far. I haven’t seen many crazy moves or anything crazy going on around me. For me it’s been good. If it stays like that, everything will be fine.”
