Gatorade Duel at Daytona - Rookie Race 2 Post-Race Quotes
REED SORENSON, No. 41 TARGET DODGE: “We were struggling there at the beginning. The car was horrible on the bottom and it was really good on the top. That's the only way that we could pass cars was on the top. It wasn’t too bad.” BECAUSE THE RACE FINISHED SO LATE, CAN YOU LEARN ANYTHING FOR THE 500? “Oh yeah. We’ve got another practice, too, so now we know some things that we’re definitely going to try during the next practice and see if it helps.” HOW MENTALLY TOUGH WAS TODAY WITH ALL THE DELAYS? “It wasn’t bad. You sit around and relax while that happens. I was just waiting to see what was going on but we feel pretty good.” COULD YOU TELL THAT STICKER TIRES MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE? “Our car actually handled pretty good. We just couldn’t get a run on the bottom. It was just really, really sluggish off the bottom coming out of the corners. The handling was pretty good, we just need to figure out some stuff and try to get it to suck up better on the bottom.” DID YOU GET ANY DRAFTING HELP? “I thought I would at times but then I didn’t. I don’t know if I have any friends or if I don’t. We’ll find out.” HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO GET SOME CONFIDENCE GOING INTO THE 500? “It wasn’t looking good there to begin with but then we came on through there at the end. It definitely helped us there. We know what we need to try to get better.”
DAVID STREMME, No. 40 LONESTAR STEAKHOUSE DODGE: WHAT HAPPENED NEAR THE END OF THE RACE WITH YELEY AND KVAPIL? “They just pinched me in. I was watching ahead. A lot of those guys were trying to race in and everything else and they squeezed me in there and I was already on the brakes and everything. It was crazy.” IS THE CAR DAMAGED? “A little damage on the nose but I don’t think it’s going to be anything that’s going to hurt us. We’ve just got to get handling a little better. I don’t know if I was too cautious or what because the 09 and a bunch of them were running and I lifted and I lost the draft there for a little while. I’ve got some things that I’ve got to work on myself.” IT LOOKED LIKE IT TOOK A LAP OR TWO FOR THE CAR TO COME UP TO SPEED ON RESTARTS. “Yeah, I don’t know what the deal was. I thought I was doing what I needed to and it did seem like it took a lap or two to get going. The other thing was that I was being cautious. I don’t know what the deal was.” DID YOU HAVE A CLUTCH OR TRANSMISSION PROBLEM ON PIT ROAD? “I think it was just me. I stalled it a couple of times there but we’ll keep working on it.” WAS THE RACE AS WILD AS YOU THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE? “No. Like I said I was too cautious and lost the draft there at the beginning and then I stalled it and got us too far behind in track position to do anything.”
