Food City 500 - Kyle Busch Notes

KYLE BUSCH NOTES & QUOTES

PERFECT SO FAR:
NEXTEL Cup sophomore Kyle Busch has completed each of the possible 1,049 laps run thus far in 2006. In four races, Busch has just one result outside the top-dozen finishers: a 23rd-place performance in the Daytona 500.

VEGAS TO BRISTOL:
Crew chief Alan Gustafson has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 317 as the primary option for Kellogg's Racing this weekend at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. The car was last seen at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March 2005, where Busch finished runner-up to teammate Jimmie Johnson.

KYLE BUSCH BRISTOL APPEARANCES:
Kyle Busch will make an appearance at Food City Family Race Night on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. local time. He will also sign autographs at the Kellogg's Racing trackside merchandise trailer on Sunday at 11:05 a.m.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS:
(ON BRISTOL.) "Bristol has not been too good to me in the NEXTEL Cup Series. We've had some flashes of brilliance and some decent practices, but it seems like the races always play out differently. If you don't qualify up front and your car isn't good, you can go a lap down in the first 15 laps. And if you get out of the racing groove it's hard to get back in because the line of cars behind you looks like a freight train coming through. It's a tough race. Guys like Jeff Gordon have it figured out. I just want to keep the fenders on the Kellogg's Chevy and get the best finish we can get out of it. This race is always wild, guys are always mad at the end and there will always be plenty of feuds to read about the week after. There's always excitement and its great entertainment for the fans."

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS:
(ON BRISTOL.) "We're taking the car we ran at Las Vegas last year. The car itself is really good and I think it'll adapt well to the characteristics of Bristol. The main thing there is keeping everything in check. The spotter will have to help keep the driver out of trouble. The crew will have to be good on pit road. The driver will have to get in and out of the pit stall perfectly. There's a lot to it. Last year everything went wrong that possibly could and we looked like rookies, so we've got to prove to ourselves that we can finish well at Bristol."

JEFF DICKERSON, SPOTTER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS:
(IS SPOTTING AT BRISTOL MORE CHALLENGING THAN OTHER TRACKS?) "It's not more difficult from any other track because these days everything on the track happens fast. It's definitely more enjoyable if you have a car that's moving forward in traffic and not a car that's falling back. If your car is going backward there will be guys who nose their way in and move you out of the way."

DICKERSON:
(HOW DO YOU KEEP TRACK OF WHO YOU'RE RACING ON A TRACK THIS SMALL?) "Depending on how good your car is, you'll just know who you're racing because you'll stay with those cars the majority of the race. We can see the scoreboard, so we know who the leader is, but it's just a trained eye you develop as you gain more experience as a spotter."

DICKERSON:
(HOW DO YOU TELL YOUR DRIVER THERE'S A WRECK ON THE TRACK?) "With Kyle, I don't tell him right away there's a wreck behind him. I just calmly say 'caution is out,' so he rolls out of the throttle and doesn't get hit from behind by slamming on the brakes. If there's a wreck in front of him, he'll see it, and at the end of the day it's his call how to react. I provide as much info as I can, in the shortest amount of time. Kyle is very aware of the race track and what's going on, so he uses good judgment."
